NewB Question:
So, if I had a set of pipes put on next year to an otherwise stock bike with PCIII installed, and went to a dynojet shop and had a custom map done, since it is already paid for, could I then somehow load the PCIII map for others to use?

As a way of saying thanks to the members helping me so often.....

Yes, you could do that, definitely! Some tuners would not like the idea, but the map is a simple computer file and can be saved/moved at will.

Your forum brothers would appreciate it as well!

2) Definitely disconnect the O2 sensor after installing the PC-III, as directed by DynoJet. This is how it's done on the '03-'05 models; it may or may not be identical for the '06 model (I suspect it is identical, but don't know that for a fact. Could one of you 2006 owners check and confirm
On their Web site, the PC people say the M419-001 mapping is for "Stock exhaust, Stock air filter, Stock O2 sensor disconnected."

And this would be different HOW from creating and distributing PDF copies of the service manual? A practice I might add that is frowned upon very strongly in this forum?

Is Dynojet's service creating an ECU map less valuable or somehow more morally acceptable to copy than the factory service manual?

Dynojet actually encourages specifically this type of sharing. In fact, in the example given above by ShinyPartsUp, if he were to have a custom map made with XYZ slip-ons and then send that map to Dynojet, they would put it on their website for all to download. More maps available, more interest (sales) in their product.

User submitted map is, I believe, Bounces. The only propietary map I'm aware of is the Holeshot Header map, of which Dale has asked all recipients to keep to themselves, and not to trade or give to others.

I stated this in the original post but worth repeating . . .
The 02 sensor for the 06 is in the same relative position as it is on the 03-05. Right side tucked down along the inside of the frame. More tucked down in than the first picture shows. You'll have to look for it.

The connector is BLACK not gray. It has four wires going into the larger side . . . the equivalent of what you see in warchild's hand between the index and middle finger.
Thanks for the reminder, camera56, and yes, now I do recall you mentioning on the first post in this thread that this connector is BLACK on the 2006 bikes, vice gray.

It's called copyright my friend. Fairly simple and decades old concept that if an author of intellectual work declares that it's not to be copied....it's against the law to do it. That's what the little © symbol is and emblazoned on the front of the Yamaha factory service manual.

Typically, folks that make and offer ECU maps do not exert that type of right. If they did exert copyright....then it would be the same as the service manual.

Otherwise it's not protected. Radman illustrates this with his post and link to Dynojet. ...also probably a better site to keep that stuff than here. I just hadn't seen it before (Thks Radman)

As a bonus the idea of copyright has been increasingly thought about by some authors of recent works. In fact, our Member Map calls out a newer version of copyright reservation called "Creative Commons". People can use the map for other purposes as long as they do it for non-commercial purposes and attribute accordingly. Basically, that method just says, "Go forth and use, make it better, but don't become a corporate stooge and then lock things up."

However, from Rad's post, if someone DID distribute Dale Walker's Holeshot map, are there legal ramifications, or does Dale just get pissed and whoever did the distribution says "tough shit"?

I hope you don't think I admonished you. I was trying to actually be informative and less sarcastic on that one.

Sure, there are legal ramifications if whoever owned the intellectual property wanted to do something about it. But, remember our system is generally set up to make the burden on somebody making a claim. Besides, it would be dicky to do it. I would worry more about one's kharma. Steal a protected map and your bike could tip over.

that's what i did. (a $200 donation to the Feejer community, i might add). it's available at dynojet and on my web site (along with wally's "smoothness map").

unless you replace the entire system, the cat/con will be your restriction (not the oem cans). what you end up with is a custom map that's not too entirely different from any of the other slip-on maps out there (including mine). wally's "smoothness map" was done using extensive dyno time (he owns one) and shooting for a specific a:f ratio instead of max hp. the end result is a sweet, even chart and a "smooth" bike.

However, if it's because the throttle pulley is oval, not round, and Fred's shim method smooths out the transition between small and large throttle openings, I can see the logic of using the shim, up to the point of putting, as Warchild puts it, FOD in my throttle area.
It is and it does. However, even though there's no need to start up the religious war again I will say that I too have spent some significant portion of my adult life fearing and fighting FOD but I was (and am) very comfortable with my Fred Shim. The wire is NOT coming out of that pulley without a prolonged battle with some needle nose pliers.

Those that have not tried the shim are of course free to continue to bash the idea. However, it makes a pronounced positive impact on the way my '06 works for me. That plus having the throttle cables properly adjusted and the spring one loop unwound has produced a very smooth and linear throttle response that I'm very pleased with.

 
Well, I finally heard back from cyclemart usa that they haven't even shipped my pciii yet! I guess that's what you get when you are cheap. $266.96 OTD, but it's been over 11 days and no PCIII.
Sportbikeeffect.com gives a 10% discount to forum members (about the same price as your OTD) and has the PCIII. So you could cancel your order and get it ASAP from SBE. No financial interest in the co. just supporting a fellow forum member/FJR rider.

Installed the PCIII on my 06 Yesterday. I went for a short blast today, so this isn't an exhaustive review.
Camera, Has it affected your mileage? I'm seriously considering a PCIII for my AE. Thanks!

 
To me the bike is perfect now after i installed PCIII. its like a different bike like night and day.

It was fast before, now it's a bat outta hell!

I know its subjective, and probably no real mechanical reason, but clutchless upshifting seems a lot smoother too IMHO
