Not Safe For Work
After all the anti-fogging crap I've tried, I finally followed the advice of you experts and tried the Pinlock system. I got the chance to borrow Flying Junior's Shoei shield/Pinlock lens for a few days and loved it from the first chilly mile. Simple idea, works like a charm, as many of you already know.
So looked for a good deal, and settled on RevZilla. Everybody's prices were close, but they offered free shippiing. Well, it came yesterday: the CX-1V faceshield fits fine, but the Pinlock insert was WAY TOO BIG! Damn. The website was pretty confusing, but I don't think that's RZ's fault--most of the Pinlock dealers use the same illustrations, apparently provided by the manufacturer. You buy the two parts separately, but it's hard to tell which lens goes with which faceshield and with which helmet. At least it was for me. I looked at RZ's return policy and it said "30 day return for any unused parts." As in pristine. That they could sell again as new. Trouble was, the Pinlock lens came with a tinted plastic film that had to be peeled off before application. Naturally, that was the first thing I did.
So this morning, with trepedation, I called RevZilla, explained the problem, and, bottom line, they're sending me a replacement lens. And since I'd already rendered the first one unsellable as a new item, they told me not to even bother returning it. I'm only paying a small shipping charge (abt. $7) for the new one. Sweet customer service. Thought they deserved a pat on the back here for that.
So now I've got this CW-1 Pinlock insert that didn't cost me anythng to add to my ever-growing box of stuff I can't use taking up garage space. It's supposed to fit (I now know) these Shoei models: X-Twelve, RF-1100, and Qwest. Goes with the CW-1 shield, that I guess is a larger replacement shield for those helmets. Anyway, I'm simultaneously posting a bunch of stuff I want to get rid of, most of it for just enough to cover the cost of taking it down to the UPS store and letting them box it up and ship it. This Pinlock insert will be among the items there. Maybe you can use it. Here's a link to that post.
