After all the anti-fogging crap I've tried, I finally followed the advice of you experts and tried the Pinlock system. I got the chance to borrow Flying Junior's Shoei shield/Pinlock lens for a few days and loved it from the first chilly mile. Simple idea, works like a charm, as many of you already know.

So looked for a good deal, and settled on RevZilla. Everybody's prices were close, but they offered free shippiing. Well, it came yesterday: the CX-1V faceshield fits fine, but the Pinlock insert was WAY TOO BIG! Damn. The website was pretty confusing, but I don't think that's RZ's fault--most of the Pinlock dealers use the same illustrations, apparently provided by the manufacturer. You buy the two parts separately, but it's hard to tell which lens goes with which faceshield and with which helmet. At least it was for me. I looked at RZ's return policy and it said "30 day return for any unused parts." As in pristine. That they could sell again as new. Trouble was, the Pinlock lens came with a tinted plastic film that had to be peeled off before application. Naturally, that was the first thing I did.

So this morning, with trepedation, I called RevZilla, explained the problem, and, bottom line, they're sending me a replacement lens. And since I'd already rendered the first one unsellable as a new item, they told me not to even bother returning it. I'm only paying a small shipping charge (abt. $7) for the new one. Sweet customer service. Thought they deserved a pat on the back here for that.

So now I've got this CW-1 Pinlock insert that didn't cost me anythng to add to my ever-growing box of stuff I can't use taking up garage space. It's supposed to fit (I now know) these Shoei models: X-Twelve, RF-1100, and Qwest. Goes with the CW-1 shield, that I guess is a larger replacement shield for those helmets. Anyway, I'm simultaneously posting a bunch of stuff I want to get rid of, most of it for just enough to cover the cost of taking it down to the UPS store and letting them box it up and ship it. This Pinlock insert will be among the items there. Maybe you can use it. Here's a link to that post.

Pinlock's are the ****!

Dang, I wish that lens was for an Arai. I'd jump on that as fast as Oprah on a Baked Ham. I need one.

I wish it fit a Multitech. I am going to be ordering a new visor with a pinlock in it in the next few days. Nice to hear, yet again, that they are the ****.

I think it does!

When Sac Mike was asking a while back, I looked up the info and I'm nearly positive that it was the same for the Multitec. Pinlock's site is not responding for me right now but you should confirm.
Nope, Multitech takes the CX-1. Thanks for making me take a 2nd look though. I would have been pissed if it had fit, and I let it get away.

See above. You responded before I pulled out.

I'll go out in the garage and check my RF1000 Shoei. If it will work, I'll post back, and can save you the shipping with a pickup.

I have the CX-IV visor on my Shoei RF1000. Sure would like it if it would work, but sounds like I'm in the same boat as you are.

Welcome to the Pinlock world Mike! Haven't purchased anything from RevZilla yet, but in your instance, it sounds like they treat folks right.

Just for informative reason, I believe I read that Nolan was the Company that originally designed the Pin Lock System and licensed others to sell it.

Since I have been using the Nolan N102 since '06 with the Pinlock system, it is great. When I ordered the Replacement Pinlock Shield there was an added bonus,

The Replacement Shield this time, incorporated Cambered/Rotational Pins that allowed Fine Adjustment of the PinLock Shield to the Face Shield.

What do you pinlock users think of the little holes you have to drill? Do you use a seperate shield for the pinlock or are the holes nothing to worry about?

Network,

Since the Nolan helmet was designed with the Pinlock system... never had to drill ANY holes.

Good Luck with your holes.

I ordered straight from Pinlock. when they saw my email address was from @navy.mil they gave me a noteworthy discount, and some extra tinted shields free.

The Pinlock shield solved my only complaint with my Shoei RF1000. I am a fan of the product and the company.

Purchase the Pinlock specific shield, and the holes / mounting pins are already installed. I use a Pinlock inset 100% of the time, so the original shield is safely stored away. Don't know if others have tried drilling a stock shield...I haven't.

As others have noted, you buy a replacement shield with the pins installed. Makes the whole thing a little on the pricey side, but it was worth it me (and I'm a cheap bastige).

And to be honest, I think it's been years since you could just buy the pins in the U.S. for a do-it-yourself project on your shield. At least, I haven't been able to find them and I gave it a pretty good look. If anyone has a source for just the pins, please post it up. I'm not planning to do the DIY, but I wouldn't mind have some spare pins.

Ive had pinlock visor on my Arai RX7 since I got the helmet 4 years ago. I fitted the light sensitive insert so it changes to blueish colour in bright light. This has a UV filter aswell, excellent for taking the edge of the sunlight. Pinlock are also making a new range for Scorpion EXO 1000 helmets.

The anti fogging feature is excellent in all weathers, so no need to lift the visors for airflow.
