I recently read in Sportrider magazine that for 2008, Yamaha improved the Throttle Pulley in the FJR so the throttle action is smoother. I have a 2006 FJR and agree that the throttle is like an on/off switch and was wondering if a Yamaha dealer can retrofit this improved throttle pulley to an 06 bike. Has anyone fixed their bikes in this manner? Thanks. -Dan

Read this: <Link>

Even if you could make your own replacement pulley, you would have to remove all of the throttle bodies to do the swap. They appear to be assembled in a chain.

There are much easier ways to improve your 2006 throttle function.

Try a Power Commander first. It will greatly improve the smoothness of the fuel injection as it relates to the throttle's on/off switch behavior. I just put one in my 07 FJR and it made a huge difference to my bikes throttle.

If that dose not soften it enough for your taste, you can install a G2 throttle cam from G2 Ergonomics It has nearly the same effect as the "Yamaha improved throttle pully" for 08, only at the other end of the throttle cable.

With the Power Commander and the G2, all your throttle head aces will be gone. :)

I agree completely - I have done both of those mods and I'm very happy with the resutls.

Thanks for the responses back. One quick question on the G2... I have a Throttlemeister on my FJR already...can I use this G2 set up and the Throttlemeister? Any responses are greatly appreciated. -Dan

I disagree on the progression of alterations. To make the 06 more like the 08 (or first gen), I would go with the G2 first. That smooths out the throttle pull significantly. If that doesn't make you happy, then go with the PCIII.

The G2 is an exact size match as stock, so the Throttlemeister should work just fine. My Vista Cruise works as well with the G2 as it did with stock.

Why don't Yamaha just go fly-by-wire on the FJR's. They already do it for the R1 <_<

Have to agree, plus the G2 is far cheaper and may just do the trick. I am using the G2, with Throttle Miester. No problem at all. I have an AE so Heated grips as well and everything works fine together.

Fred H. shim should be first on your list.

It has been a while since Fred has been mentioned. Dude was right on in his diagnosis. I did a modified Fred shim with the G2 and throttle control is barely there.

:clapping:

Your modified Fred H. shim is even fancier than mine!

I went with the progressive shim too, but I just turned a taper on copper wire.

I like your idea.

Economically, that makes sense to me also. I did the G2 first and was happy with the improvement. But, the G2 creates a longer pull distance for your wrist to twist when starting from closed to fully open throttle.

Now that I have a Power Commander, and its fix of the jerk, I'm going to try riding with out the G2 for a wile. The draw back of the G2 for me is that I have to ride my wrist up higher on the throttle before opening it wide for passing or to get on the throttle for a fast blast off, then reposition my wrist again for safe normal riding position and for rolling off trottle for braking.

I'll report back after I ride with out the G2 this weekend now that I've got the Power Commander in.

I was looking at the G2 for the first time this morning in a write up at bikeweb.. I think the $53 dollar approach first and then the $400 power commander approach second makes sense too. I could not tell from the G2 write up and pics if the stock black throttle handle goes over the chrome knurled one that comes with the G2 or it is the full replacement for the stock.

Can you help me here?

Thanks

RR

The stock grip goes over the G2. Grip removal can be a bit difficult at first, but I used window cleaner between the grip and stock plastic throttle tube and it came off relatively easy. Put the G2 on, but the stock grip back on and you are good to go again.

For really easy grip removal, just use your air compressor. Stick the air nozzle between the grip and the tube and shoot air. Grips pop off so easy, you'll be amazed!

You can get a Power Commander for $269.00 in the Power Commander group buy that is still open on this forum. They are not hard to put in.

If you wait a wile I'm sure you would still be able to get one under $300.00

Both the G2 and the Power Commander will be very good improvements, together or alone. B)
