Riding this Sunday July 17, Weather permitting, maybe two-up.

The good riding starts about 8:30AM at Cowpens Battlefield, with breakfast already eaten. Fuel and maybe a snack in Roan Mtn. The ride ends at Brick Pizza in Columbus, NC. The planned route looks a little like this

Anybody want to join in the fun?

Wheaton FJR's rules of group riding work for the people that I enjoy riding with:

"Regarding group riding: I'm sometimes a squiddly rider. I sometimes pass on the double yellow when it's safe to do so and legal.

Everybody rides a different pace...ride no one's pace But Your Own. Let the faster riders filter towards the front, move to the right, wave them on by and let them go. Do not be rude and hold someone else up. Let this be a fun ride for everybody.

In that same vein, do not ride above your limits, and crash. That's no fun for anybody, least of all you. This spoken from a previous crashee...

We will wait at all the turns, but do not feel the need to keep the person behind you in your mirror. You may if you wish, but you are riding your own ride, and they are riding theirs. We will wait for all riders at the turns and go back for those that don't show...so don't drop out without telling me or someone else verbally before the ride where you will leave the group.

If you are ahead of me and get a ticket, I do not know you, and will ride right past you and wait for you at the next turn...and you do the same for me.

By showing up at this event, you agree to these few minor "rules". If these rules are bogus in your mind, please feel free to not show up, post up your own ride and with your own "ground rules"."

Edited to add one of my own group riding "rules": We don't pass funerals

Very tempting. I doubt it tho as Sunday is my only day off this week and I was gone riding all of last weekend. Maybe I could zip over on I-40 west and meet up around Marion, NC and drop out on 181 toward Morganton then east on I-40 again.

About what time you think you'd be hitting Marion, NC at I-40? It'll take me about 2.5 to get there.

1911, if I didn't have appointments all day Monday, I would have tried to meet up with you for the portion of the ride north of I-40. I'm over here in Wilmington, and it would be a 6 hour ride just to get to Marion (or back), so it's not gonna work for me this time. Thanks for posting the ride, though! Maybe next time.

According to Basecamp, We'll be crossing I-40 on Harmony Grove Rd, Just south of Nebo, heading north, at 9:38. The route runs counterclockwise. We'll cross I-40 again heading south, at Marion, at 1:50, plus whatever time we spend stopped for fuel or sightseeing. If you joined us at Nebo and bailed at Marion you'd be with us for the best part of the ride (other than missing the cheese filled garlic knots at Bricks). The Hwy70/Harmony Grove Rd intersection has a gas station and Italian Eatery that might make a good spot to meet up. Coincidentally, this spot is 2.5 from my house too.

We'll be looking for you.

I don't think I'll make the ride. But I will try to do a straight RTE figuring you'll be at Brick Pizza at 3-3:30-ish. I can be there in about 3 hrs by hauling azz down I-85 and up I-26. I'll take the Givi trunk off to streamline a bit.

Hopefully I'll get me some of them cheesy garlicy tree knot thingees

Got home about 4:50 today, met Russ rbentnail at the Brick Oven in Columbus. Good calzones, stromboli and garlic knots. Food **** pics to follow by Russ probably. Maybe other pics by Duane, since I didn't take any

Thanks for posting this up Duane.
For cryin' out loud man, tell us whether or not the stromboli made it home safe :)

Took a bit but I found the place. GPS is notoriously unreliable in the mtns here. Luckily a Polk County deputy stopped to see if I was ok when I pulled over to fiddle with the Garmin and since he was going right past the place I just followed him. griff and 1911 were already there.

Good food- The Brick Pizzeria and Cafe. Columbus, NC. I'd recommend it if you happen to be in the area.

Thanks fellas! See ya's next time!!

Dang it, missed another one. After Lake Louise and a burger and Tall Timber Ale at the Islands Restaurant in Golden, BC, I was just too stuffed.

Party on Garth!

Just a couple pics taken

I'm glad Russ was there to get the food pics.

The first part of the ride was awsomely refreshing. Once we came down from Roan Mtn the heat and humidity were back. A good day riding then eating.

rbentnail has a ratio of slab-in-the-heat-of-the-day-just-to-eat that is way higher than mine. Griff should be giving lessons on relationships. It was his and Mrs Griffs anniversary. If you can pull off going for a ride and bringing back a stromboli in a saddlebag for the lovely wife on your anniversary, you must be doing something uncommonly right the other 364 days a year
