To Paul (twistedcricket), Justin (Jobr), Jim (jaffjrae) and, of course, Ken (blufjr), thanks for helping me pick up my bike and dust it off after my little off road excursion (a.k.a. a blown left-hander precipitated by a sloppy corner entry, a nice patch of gravel and and a rather abrupt pavement edge...). Marty
WTF?! I leave the group to head home early and you dump your bike? I thought you were big enough for me to leave you on your own.

Hoping someone got a photo of this.

Yeah, blufjr had to get a few pics for posterity. ;) Unfortunately, all of us forgot to take a pic of the bike laying on its side on the river bank taking a nap... :D

Stopping at the Elk Viewing Area, no elk:

Passing the Cheese factory, no ice cream today:

We (I) took the wrong road and ended up down on the beach at Meares. Meares point in the distance:

And the other way:

After Eric and Jason left there were five of us that finished the ride: Jim, Paul, Ken, Marty, Justin: Notice who has 5 more hp.

This was taken at Cape Meares:

Then we rode down the road, along the water to Pacific City. Here is a picture of Hay Stack Rock 2 from under a log. The wind was blowing and I took shelter.

Then, Marty fell over and did some minor scratches to his oh so pretty 07. We forgot to take pictures of the bike laying on it's side, so I took pictures of the helmet and gloves, which were the first items to come off and the ROCK.

Here is a better shot of the ROCK. I bet Marty goes out there and drags it home. It saved him and his bike from going down into the stream.

After that, we continued on to the 98 degree inland temps and battled rush hour stop and go traffic making our way through Portland.

Jeeze, I go back to P town to work and you guys go off roading w/o me! :glare:

Glad everyone is ok, even SockMonkey. Scratches just add character. ;)

And the traffic wasn't any better when I got there. Took me over an hour and a lot of back roads to get home, then a cold shower and off to work an hour late. Man, people celebrate Canada Day HARD here! :dribble:

Thanks for calling the ride Ken. Good route, if a little side streety at the start.

Thanks Ken for organizing this ride! I had a great time and it was good to meet everybody. Hope to ride again with you guys in the future. Sorry for the goof-up at the start...I think I may have contributed to that :dntknw:

Have a safe ride home twistedcricket, and sockmonkey...you did pretty good...that should buff out :D

Great weather we're having isn't it? Looks like a good ride for the PDX group and some nice scenery along the way. Sorry about the get-off Marty...it happens. All you can do is get back on the horse and ride another day. Glad the damage was minor.

Funny that you use this analogy, George. I grew up riding on a small quarter horse ranch in Kansas (my mother is a trainer). Trust me when I tell you that I lived that analogy regularly. Between breaking-in 2 year-old horses, riding hunter/jumpers, calf and team roping, and a couple of drunken goes at saddle bronc riding (and let's definitely not forget that little bull riding experience...), I've definitely had more than a few "unscheduled dismounts" as Silver Penguin puts it..! All you can do is dust yourself off, climb back on and do it all over again until you get it right...

It also gives you another excuse to detail the bike.

Ahh geesh, guyz, all I asked was that you have a nice ride, and then you take ol' SockMonkey off to an off-road SockMonkey Spankin'? LOL, but good to hear my bud M is ok and laughing about it..

Then again, learn from it, eh?

Oh, and Pigster? Good to see you again too!

C'mon Marty. You know by now that pictures just make a post so much better.

 Somewhere, buried in a photo album at my parents' place is a picture of me when I was maybe 4 or 5 getting bucked off a goat at a local rodeo. I think my expression was much the same; "this is going to hurt..!"

Looks like Ray has the Monkey's number. That was funny.
So I get home and casually tell Mrs. SockMonkey that I took a little spill. The first thing she says is, "is your bike OK..??" and heads toward the garage to take a look. I think she's more upset about the scratches than I am..!

You've got to know their priorities...

Well duh! The bike is something you ride, but for her it's a display device to showcase/enhance her beauty.

Apparently..!!

Sorry I mised the ride. Sounds like you guys had fun. I would have liked to have met all of you. Was hoping they would close the office Thursday, but they just let everybody go an hour early. I took back roads home from Portland and ended up stopping for gas in Carlton.

Anyway, what time did you pass through Carlton? I had to book home and get ready to go camping.
