A lot of people come to Idaho from California to fish. I don't know a lot of Idahoans that go to California to fish (especially during prime-time trout fishing). But, Ed kept telling me about it, he had the boat, so we made a plan.

I have a SPOT, just hit the button every hour to let the wife know I'm OK. Here's the map. Some of those hour intervals in NV are pretty far apart!

The first night three of us (Ed, Brad and I) met up at the Peppermill in Reno, NV. No pics.... I will say that resort has some nice covered parking for bikes.

Out of Reno, it was up to HWY 36. That road is fantastic!!!!

I was told the Mad River Burger bar was a must-do, so we stopped in. Food was excellent. Got a taste of the local culture with some drunk teenage kids stumbling into their jacked-up Dodge, beers in the center console. The pulled out of the parking lot tooo close to Brad's blue fjr. It was good to seem them leave. Ed with the bikes....

Further up the road, I get to see my first Redwood. Notice the size of the tree on the left...

Up early the next day, we head out of Eureka, CA for some salmon fishing on the Pacific. Ed's got the system down, and has a very sweet boat. For the first time in my life, I get sea-sick. It was a roller coaster out there, and it generally kicked my ass all day. Two things I learned: avoid bourbon the night before and take dramamine. Despite my misery, I managed to land this awesome king! (notice the angle of the ocean...)

Later that night, dinner was served. Ed and his wife made us an incredible meal. This is what you call fresh salmon:

Ed's boat, the Lagerlout:

After fishing trip, it was time to run up the coast and see Paul Bunyan, Babe, and Babe's balls.

The coast, 57 degrees in August and just as warm as it looks!

After my stay in CA, I headed home up the northern coast of CA, to Oregon. Along the way, I saw some spectacular redwoods:

Then I road home from Bend, OR across the desert.

Great report. I plan on doing something similar in 3 weeks. We fish the Kings as they run up the Klamath River (no sea sickness issues there

). I take a couple days to get up there, and this year I'll be coming across 36, which is always a Gas!

One day I will go that way and catch a salmon. They tell me that a salmon will outpull my beloved Redfish and I know from personal experience that they taste very good. I love to cook them on my BBQ Pit.

Nice pics, nice report. Thanks for sharing this.

Riding, fishing, and eating - these are a few of my favorite things!

Can't say I like salmon though - taste too... fishy. I know I know - you haven't had FRESH salmon, Pants. Well just so you know - I have. My brother lives in Seattle (Bainbridge Island) and I've tried it at his place - twice. I'll stick to my bass, white perch, redfish, and speckled trout - thank you.

Sure would be fun riding through those redwood forest.

Pants, did you try cooking it the way we would grill a Redfish or Cobia? With enough butter and lemon... I am starting to drool, sorry.

Somehow, reading your post I could see you and I riding our bikes out there to see those trees and catch those fish. If we can catch them, I can cook them. I promise you, if it swims, (with a couple exceptions) I can grill it. Once I get it off the pit, it will taste good enough to make a beagle hound hug a rabbit.

Spud,

Nice report, great pictures and of course, the company was finest kind!

We had a blast, Dee loved your report and now I am busted smoking at Mad River Burger Bar, and you could have told the Forum how you were shy about grabbing Babes blue balls in public until the little 6 year old girl squealed out loud she wanted to hold Babes Balls!

Redfish and HpPants,, Ya'all need to just ride on out and we'll go fishing. We have an Ocean full of tasty critters!

Just landed 38lb halibut on Saturday, and looking for some lings!

Maybe have an organized Ride to Fish for 2014...hmmm

FWFE

Spud, the trees aren't the only things we grow big in California!

Nice report.

The best part about Eureka is visiting Eddie, did he take you out to breakfast when the scenery is really good?

Gee, wish I had been aware of this sooner, and I would have tried to build the crowd on Ed's boat.

Nice fish Spud!

Been catching some lings/rock fish off the coast south near Cayucos/Cambria. Am trying to buy an ocean kayak (Cobra Fish n' Dive) as soon as I sell the FJR. I'm still ridin' the V-Strom!

Tight lines and keep the hollow side up.

Spud,

Thanks for the report. It doesn't get any better than riding and fishing!

I wish some of that cooler weather you enjoyed on the coast would show up around here.
