Some readers probably know about Lee Tyrrell Bordenet. Ty was involved in an accident last Monday on I-5.

An eyewitness account from the PNWRiders.com forum describes the accident as follows:

I-5 north just before exit 181, lynnwood. 35 male, on a red duccati (sp) had a red (crb?) with aftermarket exhaust behind him, as red duc signaled to change lanes out of the carpool lane, other rider crept up his ass and spooked him, duc hit brakes, went down, he tried to get up but car behind him hit him and another car trying to avoid first car ran rider over. Red bike that crept up his ass initially kept going and did not stop.

Ty is 35 years-old, married and his wife is expecting their first child. He is in ICU at Harborview Medical Center.

The riders over at the PNWRders.com forum have rallied to organize a fund-raising ride for this Sunday, June 25th. The ride starts at Renton Motorcycles at 10:00 am and ends at RMC with a spaghetti feed, car wash and raffle. If you are not able to attend the ride, you can donate to Ty's family in his name at any branch of Cascade Bank.

That a rider would **** up, cause another rider to crunch, then boogie, sucks beyond belief. Well, not belief. In too many ways, nothing is beyond belief any more...........

I haven't been in this section lately. Sorry to hear about this accident. How is he doing. I hope he is doing Ok. TJ

I read the full thread on the PNW Riders Forum. It made me sick to my stomach.

The rider, Ty, got screwed up really bad - hit by one car, then run over by another. The thread provides some graphic details, and ends with Ty recovering somewhat to the point that he could understand what had happened to him, speak some, and move.

I've had other bikes come up on me or ride side by side with me, which appears to be what spooked this guy in to the accident.

I have been following this thread since the day it started and still have not been able to figure out what really happened. It appears that Ty was "spooked" by another rider coming up behind him and his reaction was to hit the brakes so hard that he fell down. Why would someone hit the brakes if they are surprised at someone behind them, especially when they are about to merge with traffic? I would have my hand on the gas and twist the throttle if someone was too close to me. It should also be noted that the two riders involved had been sharing the carpool lane for several miles before the accident happened so Ty should have been very aware of the other rider's presence.

Its pretty amazing that he survived the accident, not only did he go down at speed, he was then hit by two cars.

I'm not sure the woman relating the story knows exactly what happened. It sounded like he was about to merge out of the HOV lane and maybe the other bike decided to hang right next to him at that moment.

I got a little freaked out by a guy splitting lanes up in Seattle last week - the traffic was going 60+, and I was about to move in to the HOV when I checked my blind spot and he was right there, 3' from me.

Regardless of how he went down, it sounded like a nasty accident, and I hope he's able to return to some level of normal life.

The woman relating the story is Cherrie (aka Whitefire) who was in her car in the next lane over and saw everything that happened. She has always blamed the other rider for causing the accident but I am not sure why since the bikes never made contact (although it was later reported that they had). I can't figure out why anyone would hit their brakes in that situation and am wondering if that is what really happened although something caused Ty to fall down right in the middle of the HOV lane. The cars following him had nowhere else to go since they were boxed in by other vehicles.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear - that was my point - she may have seen it all, but that doesn't mean show knows exactly what caused the wreck. I think there's probably only two people in that boat. One ran, and the other probably won't remember what happened. It does seem like an odd way to wreck, especially for someone that had some experience riding.

I agree, she saw the accident but seemed to have drawn an incorrect conclusion as to who was really responsible. The other rider may have contributed to the accident but he wasn't riding Ty's bike.
