I started this new thread because the original post about his accident was over four pages long and I wanted everyone to know the latest on his condition.

He's still in the hospital in Springfield, but he is getting better. GalaxyBlue (Adam) and I stopped in and showed him some pictures from SFO. He's already talking about his new bike and it sounds like he is going to stick with an FJR. His wife, who is a doctor, has been at the hospital with him since Thursday and she appreciates all the support we've shown.

Ron has a concussion, a broken clavicle with some broken ribs and a pneumothorax, which is a hole in the lung lining causing a leak. The pneumothorax is the only thing keeping him in the hospital, but he is getting better every day and will be home later this week.

Off-Topic: I just got in from SFO and it was great. At last count there were 27 FJR's and a couple of other bikes. I'll post more about SFO later.

Awesome news. Rider down always makes my heart jump. Good news is good news. Thanks for the update. That air leak is serois stuff, I know, I gotta wife that was a paramedic and she sez, "He got pretty beat up then" Glad he is whuppin it.

Any figurin in what happened to cause it. Just a bad call?? Or bike mechanics? Regardless, Good news is good news

Pneumothorax is nasty (not that concussion and broken bones are easy). Sounds like he is on the mend and that's great! And to have an MD at the bedside ain't shabby.....

Positive vibes and prayers being sent.

OK I reread my post. I ask the cause only because if something can be learned from this for others then it might help others. That is ho wwe did it in the Nav. I did not mean to be uncool or insesitive..... It rocks he is un the ups with it.

Yea, My wife sed Pneu.....thingy.... is nasty too. I am just a contractor so these big words can git me

Excellent to hear he's improving; maybe all the positive thoughts are paying off!

@Cdogman: I like your signature line....'4 ex-wives, 1 chocolate lab'....now that's loyalty!

Ron still doesn't remember the actual accident, but some details are starting to come back into focus. I'll post some more information later today on the "possible" causes.

Not at all man. I'd like to hear what happened too. Learning from other people's experiences helps our odds.

Just got another e-mail from Ron, no new information because he doesn't remember much and I was too far behind to see the cause. Ron thinks he was going about 60 into the turn, which is a lot slower than Adam went thru the curve. He remembers thinking he was a little wide, but he doesn't remember if he dropped a wheel off the edge or not.

This is Ron's friend and neighbor Sami. Ron's wife had a meeting to attend, so I am learning nurse maid skills in the hospital in Springfield. Ron is doing much better and I have to think that alot of it is due to all the support from the postings in the forum. He's never met most of you, and has been touched by the outpouring of support for him. The chest tube will be clamped off today (Tuesday), but kept in place in case in needs to be reactivated. If all goes well, it will come out tomorrow and he will come home Thursday. He looks surprisingly good for what he has been through. Can't say enough about the protective gear!!! I must tell you, Ron taught me how to ride a motorcycle (I have a Kawasaki Vulcan 800) and Ron is an EXCELLENT rider, always looking ahead and trying to be prepared for a problem that he might encounter in the road. Unfortunately with this accident he can't remember what happened, and it's driving him crazy. He plans to visit the site of the crash soon and figure out what went wrong. Please keep the good thoughts and postings coming his way, as I am convinced they are doing as much good as the medicine. - - - - -

Please add my good wishes to all the others sent to Ron. Hope that chest tube comes out soon, and stays out. Good job on the protective gear - a timely warning to each and every one of us.

Thoughts are with you. Keep your spirits up. You've got lots of people sending good mojo for a full recovery.

That is probably why he is alive. I am a big proponemt of the wearing of gear. I also use my seatbelt.

Hey Ron,

Keep getting better and dreaming of the that new FJR. Don't worry so much about what happened, it will plague you forever, happens to all of us.

Much regards and looking forward to meeting you at the FJR meet next year.
