QUESTION: Has anyone rode in central Europe? What's it like for those who have rode in Northern Italy? Please advise, should I be excited to take the FJR there?

Thanks in advance!

What do you consider as central Europe? Germany and France? These are very fine countries for FJR or any other bike, if you avoid motorways, you'll find a lot of nice curvy side roads with excellent quality and wonderful views, I spent a month last summer riding around there. French Alps are especially good with not much traffic and super scenery. Italy is also very nice, but the roads are much more busy. Austria has too many tourists in summer with caravans, the same in Switzerland. Would not recommend to go to Poland though as the roads are pretty narrow and overcrowded, lots of slow trucks and speed limits.

We spent a week last summer in Central Europe, from Prague south/west and then following (approx.) the Danube from Passau, Germany through eastern Austria, Slovakia, and to Budapest.

With the exception of predictable traffic around the larger cities, the roads were beautiful and not heavily traveled. The scenery is beautiful, the towns quaint, the people friendly....

Keep in mind that summers in Central Europe are like the Midwest - warm and subject to beautiful thunderstorms, so a lightweight rain/riding jacket is good to carry.

Enjoy!
