Riding in single digit weather.

How do you define single digit?
11F this morning with a -3F windchill factor. New Gerbing heated gloves did well. Coldest part of the body were my cheeks & nose. After raising the windshield up that also subsided. Chest got cool, but never really got me cold. Due to the Schampa head cover and the inner liner for my winter jacket, I'm beginning to feel a little like the Michlen man. Toes were cold and am still waiting on Gerbing heated insoles to be delivered. Overall, not a bad ride.
In my humble opinion the wind chill really doesnt count when you are dealing with motorcycle - were you riding into the wind or with it? :D It can be a 10ºF day with zero wind but if I ride to work on the freeway at 80mph that is a good bit different than the guy on a Goldwing that took the backroads and didnt get over 40mph.

What is "Shift 48" anyway? I've started doing a search but havn't found an answer just yet.
Shift 48 is a low idle error related to the AE version. If, idle is to low you are not able to shift. I get this error on a normal basis since I installed the power commander. By normal basis, I mean once or twice a month.

I also really enjoy riding in cold weather. The freezing fog can be a bit stressfull as I rub ice off the visor, but I enjoy the cold. It sucks I have not been on the bike in over four weeks. It is in the shop, it developed a oil leak that required the engine being taken out of the bike.

 
I've ridin all winter except I did miss a few days last month due to all the rain and ever changing temps we had. I don't mind the cold and I don't mind the rain but mix the two then I'm out.
It is priceless at peoples reaction at red lights and walking into a conveinance store when it's this cold.
Ya know I agree. I am 6'2" at 264 today (winter weight) and with a pair of over pants,a neck gatter, synergy vest and gloves I am really very comfortable riding in the mid 20's. The ride is enjoyable and the handguards do a great job. And, the comments one picks up at the convience stores are priceless.."aren't you cold.............ah no, am I suppose to be"? I don't ever recall that question being asked of a snowmobile rider or a skier. The only difference is the mode of transport in my book. The thing I really hate is when I find myself venturing into a parking lot that has scattered snow or ice and then putting down your foot on it only to feel it slip. That's scary! I didn't buy the bike to look at it or talk about riding it. I bought it to ride!

It is 15 deg F here this morning. No ice, completely dry roads. Ride in is about 32 miles, 1/2 hour. Widder gloves weren't keeping up and the toes were getting really cold.
Time for a new battery. Garage was 28 deg F but I needed to jump the FJR with the FJ.
Nice to see another owner of both! :clapping:

 
I know, I know, this is sunny California, and it doesn't really get THAT cold. Unless you're in the mountains, or it's real early or late, or you're just not USED to the damn sub-zero temps, like Old Michael and I are not ("Pffffft. Sissy," indeed). Anyway, with my electrical-stingy KLR I worry about every watt, so I bought a pair of snowmobile mittens. Lots easier to keep those pinkies warm when you can make a fist and get a little contact warmth. And if it gets too bad, I bought a box of those chemical hand warmers to drop down inside. Last all day, about 50 cents a pair. Working fine.
