Some of this was posted in the ride reports section at this clicky but here is information about road construction in and near Yellowstone National Park, in case some folks are planning on going through the park before or after WFO.

EAST ENTRANCE

The only major road construction in Yellowstone is on highway 20/14/16 at the east entrance. This is the highway that goes west from Cody, WY into the park. This project has been going on for years, off and on, and right now, there are miles of gravel where the pavement used to be. I would avoid it.

NORTHEAST ENTRANCE

The northeast entrance, near Cooke City, is a good alternative, and there are cool twisty, scenic roads between Cooke City and Cody, WY. Highway 212 between Cooke City and Red Lodge, MT is a well-known bikers paradise. There is a construction project planned outside the park in the Cooke City--Beartooth pass area (the northeast entrance) that is supposed to occur sometime this year, but as of a few days ago, it had not started.

WEST ENTRANCE

There is a relatively small road construction project just inside the west entrance, near West Yellowstone, MT, but I was told this one is not a big deal.

I have been working in Yellowstone for the last 10 days. The weather in the area has been much hotter than normal for the last few weeks. It's been getting into the 80's and 90's even in the higher elevations in Yellowstone, and around 100 occasionally in the lower elevations outside the park. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are common, but they are isolated and localized.

I definatly appreciate that info, Thanks. I'll be going thru Yellowstone the last week of Aug.

I'm coming up from Denver to Yellowstone on Sunday. Here's my route.

Which entrance is it exactly that I'm using??? I don't see a "South" entrance in the warnings.

Jeff-

It looks like you'll be coming up from Jackson, WY/Grand Teton National Park and entering Yellowstone through the south entrance and exiting through the north entrance at Mammoth/Gardiner. There are no reports of major construction projects near the south entrance or the north entrance.

The East entrance is the only one of the 5 in Yellowstone that has a major construction project going on right now.

And, there are no major road construction projects going on inside the park either. There's a few small ones here and there, lasting for a few days, but nothing worth changing your travel plans over.
