Beautiful day yesterday for a ride. Here's some phots of the Big Sky:

Ringling, Montana was named for circus owner John Ringling, who at one time was president of the White Sulphur Springs and Yellowstone Park Railway. Montana history buffs tell that the Ringling Brothers wintered near White Sulphur Springs and supposedly there is a grave of a very large elephant just outside of what is now Ringling, MT - some say it was the original Jumbo. Railroads no longer pass through this town.

The bar is being remodeled and will re-open soon. A few years ago I stopped on a Friday for a beer and they had a sign up promoting a "Branding party" on Saturday night. On Sunday on my way back through I stopped for another one and the bar was closed and the sign said "Closed for Repairs" Must have been pretty good party.

Not much activity here but it looks like somebody is doing the building up. Would be a pretty neat place to live, if you like it quiet.

Hasn't been many circus trains here in a few years.

Thanks for the writeup and photos. It brought back fond memories of when I enjoyed riding through there last summer when I was doing some work at Yellowstone. One afternoon I made a big 320-mile loop, riding down from Yellowstone then going up 85 through Ringling, to White Sulphur Springs, east on 12 past Two Dot, south on 191, then back to Livingston and Yellowstone.

Didn’t notice the town (Ringling) when I was “touring” on 89 a few weeks ago. However, I very much enjoyed 89.

White Sulphur Springs is all right by me! In fact, if I remember correctly, they have a bar that has a round (arc) top similar to the one in your picture.
