Ed Savko passed away in hospice yesterday. He founded the Rock Store along with his wife Vern, and turned a canyon cast-off into one of the top motorcycle hangouts in the world. I was lucky to meet and talk with him twice before his death, and I came away with such respect and affection for Ed.

The first time, a group of us gathered around while Ed and Vern regaled us with tales of how they used to look after Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, and Steve McQueen when they had partied a bit too much or got kicked out of their house and needed a place to rest.

A few months later, we revisited Ed to thank him for keeping the faith all these years, and presented him with a cool custom Steve McQueen helmet.

He was totally tickled by the gesture, and we all felt a bit more special, as we knew he was getting older and not doing as well.

They don't make guys like Ed much anymore. Toast to Ed tonight. Rest in Peace.

RIP Ed. I went to the Rock Store the first time in 1972 and go back whenever I'm in the area.

Losing people like ED is sad but, unavoidable. I hope the next generation of ED's are among us that will pass the torch. :drinks:  :good:

I knew Ed and Vern too. They were a really cool couple and I would always say hi to them whenever I stopped by.

50 years owning and working the Rock Store - I'm sure they seen some spectacular things.

RIP Ed, you will be missed.

Wow, so sad.

RIP Ed.......

I've never been there. Wish I could have met Ed.
