Hi All,

I would like to ask for assistance please.

2007 FJR - 180/55/17 rear tire needed

My rear tire somehow got punctioned and I never saw how. It didn't get a nail/screw stuck in it. As coincidence would have it, I met one of the nicest fellow tourer guys (not FJR). I had tried unsuccessfully to gummy worm patch it a couple times. One hole worked but would not on another one (2nd hole, long story, will get to it later please). This fellow rider had two different patch kits from Aerostich and neither worked. He (can you believe it) lived all of two miles from the gas station I came to a stop at.

I hobbled the bike to his house on his kind invite. I pulled the rear wheel off, and we spooned it off. We even tried a couple different inside patches to no avail. It doesn't appear to be a tread issue but I had placed an order last week with twobrotherstires.com(Keel) and have a set of Pilot Road 3's sitting waiting for me at their Lawrenceville location north of Atlanta. My brother lives in Atlanta (Decatur) and I was slabbing it down to his house to spent a couple days with him before he moves to Seattle. Then I was going to turn around and spend some time at Deal's Gap and area, before returning to Chicago this Thursday.

Ideally I would like to get a somewhat decent take off that would get me the last 250 or so miles to his place. But if any tire is available, I would be most grateful. Getting a replacement tire, I could take it back to this rider's house and spoon it on.

Please PM me or leave a reply here and I will check it in the morning. I am checked in at a Super 8 in Antioch just south of Nashville. I have opened the yellow pages but not sure of stores being open Sunday/Monday.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much reading this.

Thanks,

Spinblue

Wow, that stinks. If you cant find anyone on Sunday/Monday try craigslist. I just spot checked it for Nashville and there were several people on there offering up tires that fit the FJR.

I think you'll have some luck finding a shop open on Monday. I think there is a HD dealer open on Monday IIRC. Just cant remember which one........

I'm looking for my FJR assistance list. (There is one in case you weren't aware) Likely there is someone in that area that can help you. I'm going to look again. I used to keep it in my topcase but it somehow got wet & I took it out. If I find the information I will PM you,

Heidi

Spinblue, I found my list & sent some info to you via PM.

Good luck, Heidi

Hi,

My name is Patrick. My brother is Spinblue and he wants to express his thanks for the help. He is currently located I24 & 524 just South of Nashville without a laptop in Antioch, TN.

Will try FJR contacts for area, any assistance to locate a tire (size 180-55-17) via craigslist or any other means would be tremendously helpful and appreciated.

Please leave a PM if you can

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Update;

We found a tire on Craigslist, and they are on their way to pick up the tire. We will post again later to update all of those who have been involved.

Thanks!

Well, Spinblue, it looks like you missed a good chance to try life on the darkside.

(Wouldn't have posted a comment like this if you were still stuck by the side of the road. Probly not in the mood to hear it. :) Glad you'll be back on your way soon.)

We got the tire spooned on and I made it to Decatur to my brother's place.

What a joy it is to have a smooth riding bike. It's one of the reasons we do this in the first place.

The craigslist guy was soooo nice. When I asked him about his listing, he said verbatim, "darn, I sold them last night, but I have a used one you can have." ding! ding! ding! I got up to his house and he had left it on his front porch. I left him some cabbage and told him to have a burger and beer on me.

I'll head up to Keel tomorrow and get the PR3's Tim is holding for me. I'm really looking forward to a new set of tires.

When I have more time, I'll go in to the details of the ordeal.

Thank you everyone for helping out. And if the FJR contact list is still active, yes, I need to get my name on that. I'm not sure why I'm not.

The FJR Assistance list info can be found here. Print it & keep it in a permanent spot on the bike. & good luck, man.

Update: Good things folks.

I had been researching the PR3s and had seen the reference to twobrotherstires.com.

Tim and Ernie are great to deal with, low key and very professional as well as very detail orientated.

I headed up there this morning and no sooner than I had got there, they pulled my bike on to a lift and Ernie went to work.

I would highly recommend this guys.

I haven't had much chance to try the new rubber out, but I did crank it over in a double lane left hand interstate ramp. I pulled out wide in to the second lane to pass a slower moving semi. That initial impression was very nice indeed.

Off to the Gap in a couple days.
