Hey all! I had a little free time so on Friday I screamed down to EOM in West Virginia. I left my house at 7:45am and landed at the Brier Inn at 7:35pm. I know what your thinking "what took so long". Well I stopped at the border for breakfast and picked up some duty free beer.

This is Niagara Falls. The view is from the duty free store.

So I pretty much super-slabbed all the way down. At the first toll both I was behind a girl in a two seater Mercedes, well we played road tag all the way to West Virginia. She'd pass me then I passed her. You get the idea so we became a team of sorts, a 2 vehicle Cannonball Run. It kept my mind busy for the long trip. Anyway when I pulled off for gas at hwy55 off US19 she gave me a wave and a thumbs up. My reserve had started started blinking a while back so this was the first exit I came to. Well guess what? No gas station to be seen so I keep going. As I round a turn and crest a hill the bike starts to chug! Wow what luck as I rolled into the Sunoco at Craigsburg!!! So I took the back roads from there into Louisburg. What an awesome route. I settled in and went out to meet whoever would talk to me and set up some rides for Saturday. My riding buddies will be Steve ,Fred, and Mark. Later we picked up Scott and Donna.

This is how it looked when we took off. Didn't look to promising.

It didn't take long and things were looking up.

This road was just a single lane wide and twisty. Thankfully we only passed one truck!

A large group of us ended up at The New River Gorge bridge. The route that goes under the bridge was closed due to a malfunctioning barrier so we missed out on that little piece of road

Lunch was here and we were served a wild game lunch. Elk and Buffalo burgers. MMMMMM very nice!

This guy wanted a piece of me. Is he ever lucky I'm good natured.

Our ride was fantastic. I only managed a couple of shots of the scenery.

This was the scene back at the Brier Inn. I never get tired of seeing this.

This was Jason going over a few things at the dinner. What a day, what a night. Thanks to the Organizers for running a great show.

Way to go Rob! I always appreciate you taking the time to share your adventures with all of us.

Good golly you get around! I'm thinking you may lead all forum members in FJR mileage this year. What's your total thus far?

...and is that cat still mad at you? :D

Nice write up Rob,

I wish I could have joined you, I was this (") close. Looks like you had great weather and a fun time.

Hey Rob, nice pic's! You do get around, Cape Breton then off again~very nice! Did you witness the latest "tip" (a.k.a drop or crash)? Glad to hear everyone is safe. You'll have to tell FJR from MO that in Canada we are known to "tip" while at a complete stop. We don't wait for dangerous curving roads and huge trucks coming around corner's. I've been the 'luggage' 2-3 times, when it's happened ~that's bad enough, I don't want to see the truck! Maybe it's time for me to ride on my own :thumbsupsmileyanim: . Stay safe. Sue (& Greg)

Hey Mike I think the close tally on just FJR related rides (NAFO,CFR,EOM) is 17500 kms!!! or 10500miles. When I add in my Florida jaunt that adds another 5300kms or3200miles.Grand total this year is..........so far...........22800kms or 13700miles. And 2 sets of tires dammit. :dribble:

So my riding buddies today were Scott and Donna from the Pittsburg area. We rode more of the twisted roads today and took our time.

Saw some wild life where it should be... off the road.

We took this class D road for a while up and over a mountain.

DSCF1614.jpg

We ended up on a gravel road that was so dusty and dry we could hardly see. ( Who needs a Strom when you have an FJR)

We landed at this little restaraunt called The Hutte. It was a very primitive buffet style. Awesome food and atmosphere. It's in the little hamlet of Helvetia WV. Go ahead and google that place. It's in the middle of nowhere.

A meal fit for the weary traveller.

I'm home now and warming up. Thanks to all involved. Thanks to the group I road with too. Steve,Fred, Mark, Scott and Donna.

Very cool Rob! I need to visit some other FJR venues along with NAFO and WFO and BAFFO..
I gotta ask... what's BAFFO?

I didn't see the crash although I think I did pass the truck that day. Tip of the day awards were'nt handed out down here. I heard there were a total of 3 tips this weekend. I , myself just about ran down Scott because I wasn't paying attention. Phew!

Glad you made it home safe Rob. It was nice riding with you, even though you did make me lead the whole time. Hope to see you again, and I did realize I missed the exit right after we saw you ride by.

Later, Scott

That was a great ride Scott, you are a natural leader on the hwy! See you again.

Rob

It's good to see that you enjoyed yourself, Rob .... A weekend like that really doesn't cut it.... I keep going down to the part of the world every year. I still don't think I have ridden on every road I want to.

EOM could be there for the next 10 years and you still wouldn't see all the routes.
