OK, so it was a 1936 Indian bored out to 1300 cc's and the new record is still a tick under 100 mph. But the entire team consists of a retired man who owns the bike and one mechanic/driver. It is bike number 1300 here on the official list of new speed records:

The owner lives off a pension and saves every nickle all year to improve the bike and race for a week on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Jeremy Bolduc works as a mechanic at the local Kawasaki shop and is a good guy, great with bikes and races trials (beat a few pros at an AMA race this year).
RSS is A small operation that was hoping the bearings on the trailer taking the bike to the flats would hold up. Jeremy got his motorcycle endorsement on his license to run this bike. The first time he ran a street-legal motorcycle was when he road this motorcycle at Bonneville. The bike is barely legal, and they scraped by tech inspection because the seat was just above the hight of the rear tire if you squinted just right (a new requirement this year). The bike has a 1950's truck fog lamp with a polished aluminum insert instead of glass for a headlight, it has a suicide shift and left grip throttle.
What a first ride! I talked with Jeremy and saw the bike for the first time a week ago. It used to be a chopper/show bike in another incarnation and was featured in two magazines, but has a few nicks now -- but still fun to look at.
Jeremy said that fourth gear was an overdrive and they lost a lot of speed with the flat gearing on top end. They hope to have the money to tear down the transmission this year and change the gearing, and hit 115-120 next year.
No, I don't have pictures. I'll see what I can do about that. And Jeremy is my mechanic -- and a great family man and good guy. If ever in Roseburg needing a quick and reliable repair, I'd recommend him. He likes to talk bikes when he can. It's a good story I thought I'd share.
