For the 1st riding weekend of this year, I was blessed the entire weekend with good riding weather. At some point each & every one of my trips was blessed with rain, sleet or snow at one point or another. This trip was absolutely picture perfect.

Once again, Jim Meadows is going to grace us with some of the finest that WV has to offer when he pens his routes to paper. We rode through hundreds of twists and turns over 3 days of riding.

I took a few pictures over the weekend. I really don't have many minutes to spare right now, but wanted to show a pic that depicts our weekend.

I don't believe that the temps got over 70-75ish & it was gloriously sunny.

I need to exit stage left right now, but have a few more pictures that I'd like to share later, Heidi

Tom, I promise not to do that.

I was wondering... does everyone know how to say ESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS? If not, you EOM attendees will know how to say it in September! :D

Damnit.... DAMNIT DAMNIT DAMNIT!!!!!!!!

I want to go.... wahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

I'm coming out there next month since I can't go for EOM.....

Joe, that part of WV's Rte 250 isn't in our ride area, although this part should be:

In this pic you cannot really see the elevation change. I'd say the elevation dropped at least 20' from the left of the pic to the the very bottom. Believe me, there was at least 20' of elevation change. I climbed to take this pic. My bike's location is marked in red. There is a decent representation of the changes in road camber, though.

Actually, these 2 pics were not taken this past weekend but are representative of what you'll be getting into:

All of these pics are taken on Rte 250. I don't think that folks should visit that area w/o riding 250 from Huttonsville, WV almost to about W Augusta, VA

See what you missed on Rte 250 Gary? Ooh, I hate when I gotta' route scout by myself... & pull over in gravel & stuff............

Both, on Saturday & Sunday Creta sent/brought lunch fixins' in order to save $$$. Overall, not considering the price of gas these day, it was a fun & inexpensive weekend.

This is what we did on Saturday & Sunday for lunch:

Cool old Mill along side one of the roads that we were on:

On my way home I took 219 to 66 to 28 to 250 into Staunton, VA. While on Rte 66 & near Snowshoe, I passed Historic Cass Scenic Railroad & stopped for a nice long break:

Cass has trains that run up the Cheat Mountain. Hmmm, maybe an adventure for EOM? For sure, it'd take a while to get to Cass & then there'd be a lot of missed riding while on the train ride... but for the folks looking for something different, this could be it. I think that they do lunch rides & such.

It seems that Cass is not the railroad that goes up the Cheat. It travels to Bald Knob at an elevation of 4842 feet. It also goes to two other stations. Indeed, there is a dinner ride on the Saturday of EOM, though. For more details click here

Also, there is the Durbin Greenbrier Valley Railroad that does indeed have trains that run up Cheat Mountain. They even do overnight excursions. For more info click here.

I urge anyone that might be interested to at least peruse these sights.

The wife and I have been on the Cass Railroad. The trips are 2 hours long if I recall correctly. There is also one that is 4 hours long that takes you up to the old town of Spruce. If you are a steam engine buff, or like the scenic views a steam engine up the mountain can give you, take the ride. Be sure to pack your own lunch as the only stop on the 4 hour trip has a snack bar, but for $2.50 for a bottle of water, you can imagine how expensive everything else is.

IF you are going that direction, check out the Grennbank Observatory. Home of the largest radio telescope if I'm not mistaken.

And speaking of scouting ( am I jummping topics here or what! ) how's 250 look Heidi? I'll be on that route the first week of July. More than likely on Monday June 30th. My uncle and I are taking the route suggested to me in another thread here.
