Routing Wires Under Gas Tank

Any reason why I couldn't route my fuse box relay wire under the front of the gas tank? Any maintenance/repair items that would require disconnectiing the wire to get to it?

 
Spark plug changes and valve checks and TBSs. Just leave enough slack so you can move it out of the way. Or run it towards one side...and leave some slack. There's plenty of room under there.

+1, run along the side of the Right side of the frame

Is there something on the right side to connect the relay wire for switched power?

 
Nope...Well maybe, but for under the seat installation, run the big wire from the battery, under the tank to the fuse box. Then connect the relay switch to the light blue rear light wire on the left side of the bike. Easy as can be.

The wire powering the air cut valve of the air induction system is switched. I have that tapped for a relay since it is conveniently located and easy to reach if you want an under the tank source.

 
If Yamaha had intended a wire to be run under the tank they would have cast in a passage under it someplace.

Personally? i wouldn't listen to these fools.. As soon as a fire breaks out and you crash and die? Where are they going to be????

No, these are HIGHLY sensitive machines.. I'd consult with yamaha before adding anything.

Can you describe the wire? Color? Size? Got a picture?

 
Ok guys cut the El Torro Poo-Poo..

If running power for things like audio amps, comm systems, and other low-level signal amplification systems, run down the left frame rail, as viewed when sitting on the bike. Keep all low signal wires away from iggie coils. If your powering up aux lights, or other items that aren't sensitive to noise, use the right frame rail channel by the coils.

IMHO, YMMV, of course.

I did run a wire under the tank,

but I always thought it vulnerable to being trapped or snagged during servicing. In the end I ran it with the factory wiring.



Ok, it's more work, but it'll never cause a problem.

(I did this while installing a cruise control on my '10.)

I took a tach generator and placed it next to the stator. Gives me plenty of power for all of my added devices that I run while riding.
