Rumors of a Honda Supersport apparently false

The pic's Terex posted look a lot nicer than the ones sockmonkey posted. They look like completely different bikes. I could do without the tank mounted air bag.

The 1200T looks interesting, but what I already own is fulfilling my needs just fine, so far....

Meaning you likey or not so much..?
Well, sorta, yeah, me no likee all that much thus far, but we really can't say until the bike can be evaluated first hand.

The forward part of the side cowlings appear to be direct descendants of the current CBR1000RR side cowlings, which IMO looks like moist ***... both in photos and in person.

Still, I guess I shouldn't rag on the bike until it gets here, but.... anyone else notice how that final drive looks hauntingly like BMW's infamous final drives? But since it's a Honda, it will work, unlike the Beemer FD's.

I impressed with this thing. All of you know more about bikes than I do here, but I think it's aesthetically pleasing, and might be the right size for my wife, who would be a beginning rider and thinks the FJR is too heavy for her.

Doesn't sound like a beginners bike to me. Not a light bike, lots of power (more than FJR and looks like it's a VFR replacement for the XX) if I read this correctly.

I like the looks of it. I noticed two different pics -- the T looked like it had an adjustable windscreen, while the one (like WC last posted above) did not -- more a GT bike like a Busa, XX, K1200S equivalent.

Yeah! what he (Hi Rich! :D ) said! That VFR "thing" is going to be a stump puller!
I see Honda aiming squarely at BMW's K1300S/GT with these new bikes. From a power perspective, expect somewhere around 170hp (+/-10hp) for the supersport, and 150hp (+/-10hp) for the tourer. I haven't heard any torque numbers yet, but I'll bet they're easily in the low 100slb/ft range.

As an aside, it's being reported that this bike is only slightly larger than a CBR1000RR. It also already seems to have been given a nickname in the media: Shamu. :glare: Article here: Shamu Visits the Alps

 Some of the comments on that "Shamu visits the Alps" web page are *brutal*!

Looks like it's got Honda's latest anti-lean technology.

Ya gotta admit, this frontal shot doesn't necessarily suggest a lithe, taunt machine....

I agree. It even reminds me of the Beamer style wise, except for that chrome trim stuff... WTF is up with that?

Honda should dust off the old plans for the CBRXX1100, punch the cylinders out to a couple hundred cc and they'd have themselves a world beater.

Precisely so. Perhaps it's a nod to that segment of the Gold Wing crowd who tend to add a metric buttload of "safety chrome"

ACK, don't get me started on those marketing geniuses at Honda regarding the Blackbird... :angry2:

Aw, c'mon Warkitty, dust off a couple of those old rants from the XX site. Now THERE were some world class rants and hyperbolic descriptors strung together.

Hehehe -- every summer when those upgrade rumors would hit the rags; it was a thread to look forward to. :D

Perhaps if pgrhodes is lurking, she could take some instruction on style.

Pretty interesting write up for those of you who haven't heard about the transmission options that will be available on the new VFR. Be sure to check out the video demonstration link near the end of the article: VFR1200 Dual-Clutch Transmission Details

I'm curious how this auto transmission will react in the twisty sections compared to what we're used to experiencing.

IRT the Blackbird... Didn't the Blackbird have issues with wearing through sprockets and chains at a ridiculous rate? What with all that power it was putting down.

If I'm pushing +100 hp to the tire, I want that power routed through a drive-shaft. I like the fact that Honda is getting that one right this time.

Of the two Blackbirds I had between 2000-2008, with combined 173,000 miles, the *shortest* chain/sprocket life I experienced was ~ 17,000 miles (this was before the Pro-Oiler was installed).

The *longest* chain/sprocket life was ~ 28,000 miles.

This is in sharp contrast to the current Hayabusa, which at 41,000 miles, has had only gone through one chain/sprocket change (OEM hardware lasted 34,000 miles! )

Americans tend to really like -- 'shiney'.... :(

It was the very first 6-cyl Gold Wing ('87, I think?) that had all the ancillary bits: h/bar reservoirs, brake covers, etc. -- painted either semi-gloss black or silver (handsome, I thought...). I think that only lasted one year -- and those are probably the least-desired models extant?

If Honda knows nothing else? -- they know what the market wants and will pay mega-dollars for....SHINEY  . :(

This bike looks like a direct competitor to the BMW K1300-S.
Not only the K1300-S and GT but also the C14 and the FJR. If they keep the weight down to around so that it compares with the K1300GT, get the power up to around 170hp, give it heated seats/grips with cruise control - it may be a kick butt bike.
