If you really want to know how many people run mixed sets of tires, you could take a look at the

The New 2015 Big FJR Tire Poll
Contrary to the answers made previously to this thread, it appears that only 55 out of 235 respondents (23%) mix and match their tires. The vast 77% majority said that they replace their tires in matching sets.

FWIW - I'm a 23 percenter. ;)

I always try to replace tires in a set, meaning I change the rear at the same time I change the front. I have run different brands front and rear, two different times, but I took two off and put two on at the same time.

I'm running "the Fred combo" and liking it. PR2 rear and T30GT front. Relatively inexpensive too.

I can't remember the last time I used a matching set...

I have always run the same type front and rear, except last year for a couple months I had a Michelin on the front and Bridgestone on the rear it ran well, the reason was I had a blowout on the rear, something cut the tire on hwy40 between needles and Barstow had to be towed to bullhead city and a Bridgestone was all they had

And that ^^^ is one of my favorite things about the FJR. The fact that the tire sizes are very common means that in an emergency in the middle of nowhere you can find a tire that will get you home. Even if it is a sportbike tire that will only last 3K miles, at least it is a tire.

My ST1300 was not like that. Honda used those oddball sizes so every time I ever needed new tires they had to be ordered.
