Carports are for cars.
Next year bring the bike in the living room while you are doing your snowbird routine, Jer!
I am going to try that as soon as I figure a way to get the bike up the steep stairs to our second story apartment.

If you are going to store your bike in a carport or open to the elements area for an extended time wrap the rotors and callipers with saran wrap. If you have respect for the bike you will cover it as well.
It is covered.

The rust will last about 18 feet once you start it up and move out. My front rotors looked like this after just 4 days of no riding:

Hope yer feeling okay!

Nice wear lines you've developed in that rotor!!

Depending on the cover you can hold the moisture in and create a worse condition. I don't think the FJR rotors are made of cast material. I could be wrong though. If they are cast the rust can inhibit them. If that happens you will end up with a pulsation everytime it hits the rusted area. Its not a life threatening situation and the rotors can be swapped out in the end.

Enjoy the warm weather,

Dave

Dave, the rotors are definitely not a casting. I do an ultrasonic thickness check on them every once in a while. Sound will not travel through a casting. It's waaaay too porous.

I take my FJR into the garage for the winter. However, once it leaves the garage it stays out. So, in order to keep the rotors looking nice and clean, I do the following:

1. Ride it - sometimes like I stole it (police station down the street)

2. After I ride it, I make sure to cover the rotors with cellophane. Specially when they are nice and hot so that no air is trapped. Oxygen free iron is shiny iron.

disclaimer:

(this is all a joke, please do not put anything over your rotors)

That rotor looks like it is almost done anyway, based on the lip around the edge.

How about one of the Zerust bags, or the Carbag system with the dessicant?
Or are they snake oil?

That was what I was going to suggest also, since he can't get it up the stairs and into the living room (maybe install an elevator?), that may be the next best thing down in the carport?
