What is wrong with Rain-X on the clear parts and Mothers Wax on the painted parts?
What am I missing??
Unless they now have a Rain-X product designated for plastics, I would stay away from it. The formulation for automotive glass has been known to ruin plastic shields.

I ruined some plastic windows on a boat with Rain-X. Then I read the directions. I've used Pledge for years with no problems..

Rainex will and has ruined many Plastic Windshields.

Every year at the Sturgis rally I change at least one Windshield that has been ruined by Rainex

I have used Rain X on only the Mirrors and Head lights. Not on the shield. The bug remover I use beads up the water pretty good.

I will start using Pledge per your recommendations. Best part will be the wife asking "where is the dust spray" next time she cleans the house.

I will just play dumb. And hope she doesnt see it on the work bench shelf

Just use Turtle Wax or whatever you use to protect your paint. All any of them do is fill the dips and valleys to create a smooth surface and reduce water's surface tension. Apply it just like you do on your paint.

I wouldn't use anything with the word "polish" in it. Most polish has abrasives to polish and smooth the surface. Those abrasives will eat through the coating.

Rainex says right on the bottle that it will damage plastic. You guys don't believe them? READ THE BOTTLE dorks! And

stop being so frigging cheap and using Pledge on your bikes.

I do use the Turtle Wax bug remover on the shield.

But using Pledge saves me some money cause she buys the household cleaners. I have to buy bike stuff.

Gotta pinch those pennies

For the past few years I have been using Yamaha's Windshield & Visor Plastic Cleaner & Conditioner. $10 a bottle and it lasts a long time. I put a little on my visor or windshield, sperd it out with my fingers, let it sit and wipe it off with a clean dry cloth. It removes dirt and bugs with ease. I have not had an issue with haze, discoloration or scratches. Very good product.
