The other night we had a death in North Idaho of a dedicated Spokane Police Officer on a Motorcycle.

It is truly sad that this happened because it would seem that his lack of wearing a helmet was probably a contributing factor in his death (speculation on my part) but based on the story I think it probable. It seems he lost control after contacting an abrupt lane edge in a construction zone and most likely striked his head which left him in the roadway when he was run over by the truck. Of course, the driver of the truck ultimately killed him but other factors must be looked at. I realize the helmet issue is not in this story but it was confirmed on the news last night.

Idaho and Montana are all about freedom! no helmet law exist.

Tragic.

Don't think it indicates if he was a moto-cop? I was looking for that because he was a cop.

If he wasn't, then really the being a cop part is irrelevant, if he was, he should have known better imho.

While it's definitely sad, and tragic for his friends and family... any motorcyclist should be wearing a helmet imho. Even if it wasn't a contributing factor here, it may very well be at some other time.

The article hyper-linked in the OP doesn't say a word about helmet use, so where is there any basis for speculating helmet-less riding contributed to the death?

The entire second paragraph is the craziest compendium of speculation I've read in a LONG time.

Don't get me wrong...even though I live in a "no-helmet-law" state, I wear mine 99.9999999% of the time, but saying things like the above serves no purpose than to yank on emotional strings.

Yeah, RH is right. The article doesn't say any of the stuff in the OP past abrupt lane edge in a construction zone, and run over by the truck. Helmet yes or no is not mentioned.

The article isn't even about the bike wreck, actually; it's about the driver answering charges about leaving the scene.

To the OP, yeah, you said helmet-less was speculation on your part (actually you said that being helmet-less probably contributed,) but what you talked about in your post had very little to do with the story you linked. Is there an agenda here?

Oh, and after reading the article the realist (pessimist) in me says the driver fled the scene because she had been drinking. Not feeling too sorry for her right now.

Because I was curious about this, I did some searching and found this article on the accident. Here are a couple of snippets from it:

"Henson died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.Henson was a former Kootenai County sheriff's deputy from 1993 through 2000 and was a Spokane police motorcycle officer in the traffic unit."

So I guess it's possible the OP saw more than he originally linked to. Still a real shame, but yep, he should have known to be geared up.

According to court documents Knapp does say there was a cup of alcohol in her vehicle, but it was from the previous day.

Makes sense to me - I always drive around with a cup of alcohol from the previous day.

One can only hope that she never drives again.
