When I spoke to Lisa at NAFO, the only thing she said she might have done different on the cover was to have a first-aid pocket on the top of the fuel cell cover, with a big red cross on it. Attach it with Velcro, and if you happen upon an accident, you can grab and go.
I guess I should have included a pic of my cover. The Idea of the red cross actually came from Matt W I had asked him what he would have done different with his cover when I ordered mine from Linda a couple of years ago. He said it might be a good idea to have the red cross. So when ordering I asked Linda and she said no Problem. So here is mine which I believe is the first one she did with the cross. If you look at her website she has a oic of my cover on there.

Yes, and no on the progress. I have the phone number for the owner of Sampson, and it sounds like he would be willing to give a pretty significant discount, but I have not made time to call him over the last two weeks. Work and personal life have been beyond crazy. I will try to call him in the next few days, and then post up in the group buy area if we are going to proceed.

Sorry for the delay.

Actually, I will be calling Ron Sampson dirrectly. That is if I can ever get my kids to give me 5 minutes of freetime one of these nights.

I spoke with Ron Sampson, and long story short he would want a minimum of 5 people to commit to purchasing a fuel cell to give a group discount. He has never made a passenger seat style fuel cell for a Gen 2, but feels he could do so without any problem.

the bad news for me is that do to some personal and work related issues it looks like I am out as far as a fuel cell, or any other major farkles for the foreseeable future.

If anyone else is interested in picking up the ball on a Sampson fuel cell group buy, send me a PM and I will be happy to give you some more information and contact info.

Just so we can give Trigger a break, I will say that I could still be interested in this group buy. Perhaps we can get any interested parties to post here. If there are at least five of us willing to buy, I will be happy to take over the coordination effort.

Thanks to TriggerT for all your hard work!

I am interested if the price is right. How would the tank attach to the bike on a GenII? Does it use the same points as the pillion seat?

Ms. Pelvis, I will help you with this if you would like.

Any others interested in a group buy?

Burk

I've been looking to add a cell to my bike and want to do a passenger mount. On another bike of mine, I used a Summit fuel cell and basically built a rack to mount it on that also doubled as tiedown for "stuff".

For the FJR, I was looking at these:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-291204D/

@ 4 gallons, it's not at the limit of what you can do per IBA, but the price is right (plastic cells are a little bit cheaper), but would take some fabrication to make it fit where I want to put it.

One thing I did with my other cell is removed the foam that is used as the baffle. I didn't originally and had problems with the bits of foam clogging things up over time. An old racer told me a trick of taking the plastic 1 qt oil containers, then drilling/cutting so that they won't hold fuel in them, and stuffing an appropriate # of them in the cell to fill it up. Stops the slosh and works great.

Still have to do some measuring, but I think this will work. You might even be able to find one of these in good shape used by looking at sites such as www.racingjunk or NHRA; there are other places I'm sure that cater to racers that could have items like that for sale.

Way cool Wendy! I'm heading a different, Candy Butt Association, direction (less gallons = less seat time = more fun) but I applaud you for taking this over from TT!

Not a whole lot of enduring interest in this one, it seems - they didn't come back with a substantial discount. I guess that frees me to go with the Crowd Favorite BLM cell...

Wendy-

Any hope of a group discount with the BLM setup? Do you have a link there, perchance?

I'd be very interested in the Sampson pillion setup if they would be willing to update the design for the GenII setup, increase the capacity to about 4.5 gallons, and ensure it works with the Givi mount and V46 topcase. Considering the audience, I'd think this wouldn't be too hard to talk them into. Each would greatly enhance marketability.

Hey Alex -

I talked to the folks at Sampson about increasing the capacity a bit, and they were willing but not particularly enthusiastic. His response was, "Sure, but if half a gallon makes a difference you are probably planning your ride poorly." Hmmm.

Here is a link to the BLM FJR cell:

When I posed the question to our experiences cellers, the result was almost unanimous in support of the BLM cell:

I'm definitely still down for working on a group buy. I haven't bought one yet, and although I assure you I will be drooling heavily for about a week starting March 1, I don't think a Tanji cell is in my immediate future. (I tried to put a very positive spin on the whole "investment" angle, but as soon as Mike asked me to remind him how much our mortgage payment is, I knew it was pretty much a lost cause. :bye2: ) Anybody else out there still interested?

I'm telling you the more I read about fuel cells the more I get lost. The Tanji cell would be awesome, but I agree $1500 seems too much to me. Curious, does anyone know why Dean doesn't make more of them to sell? I realize it's time consuming and he probably has a "real" job. :)

If you want, I could ride up to Desert Valley Powersports and talk to Glenn personally about a group buy and perhaps those that are close could ride up and have them instal at a group buy price. I have NO idea if they would be interested or not, but I could ask.

Thanks,

Dave

You guys really know how to hurt a guy.

You are looking for a group buy on a tank similar to the Sampson. In other words, you want something that takes the place of the passenger seat, but you want the IBR max volume.

Something about this seems really familiar :D

Having spoken to Dean directly about these tanks, he told me that its just not worth his time to make more. He sells them for about $1500, but only makes about $20 a pop on them. They're actually very expensive to manufacture.

I want one that is bolt ready for a Gen 1 bike. All, I need to do is tap into the main tank and run fuel lines. Is this what you're building? I thought your cell was for a Gen 2 bike.

Dave

Like I said, I'm so lost on these fuel cell threads.

Liability might have crossed his mind. It's not your customers you need to worry about. It's their surviving spouses/dependents/third party litigators...

I overlooked that you and Bionic Pelvis are on Gen I bikes, so I went back for a headcount:

OP - Gen II
mehaffydr - Gen I (already set-up)
dcaver - Gen II
Murph - Gen I (I should have noticed the turn toward Gen I when Murph chimed in.)
Bionic Pelvis - Gen I
Duster19 - GenI
DaJuice - GenII (but he's making his own - his might be another oportunity for a group buy)
Badcat - Gen II
fljab - Gen II
Slonishku - Gen II
Yes, my tank is designed for a GenII. I had the impression that the people following this thread were hoping Sampson would make a tank to fit the GenII and with more volume.

Holy crap! I feel like a jerk, but I've been so swamped that I've hardly had time to check in lately.

That, good sir, is truly a thing of beauty! Nice work!

So..... How about a GenI model & a group buy? ;)

You can use my bike as a design guinea pig for a little compensation.
