Lucky me!

I was able to score some Sam Adams Imperial!

I bought:

1 4 pk of Double Bock

1 4 pk of Imperial White

1 4 pk of Imperial Stout

And....

One bottle of TRIPLE Bock!

I plan on having one of each out of the 4 pk, And saving the Triple for a special occasion soon. ;)

Canyonman... PM sent

Alright!

At the end of the Double Bock, I have to say that this was one of the BEST beers i have ever had. At 9.5% alc/vol, I am feeling pretty damned good! :D

I just cracked open an Imperial Stout... Holy jeezus is this a smoky dark brew! Completely amazing flavors... I generally hate stouts, But this one is so unique, I actually like it! It is 9.2% alc/vol

On deck... The Imperial White... I will assume that it will taste like water after the Stout. :haha:

Ha ha, yes Adam! I'm glad you enjoyed them.

I think most beer kind-o-sewers would probably say that you should start with the lightest beer and work your way toward the heaviest and darkest. But so long as you have the time, the stomach, and the high tolerance for CH3-CH2-OH, hey... ;)

I haven't tried the Imperial White, so I'll be interested in your impressions.

I'll have to get back to you on the White... I really think it's better than what i experienced. Like you said, I should have started with the White first... ;)

First impressions of the white after the darks, I was thinking hey, This is a glorified butt wiper! But it is a good brew that is almost sweet. Hard to explain. Let me drink another and I'll get back to you. :)

I've asked this one to marry me...

Why??? 'cause it gives good head????

Yeah, I kind of guessed it would be hard to appreciate the White after that Stout. ;) That one is a pretty large beer. Thick and heavy, creamy and wicked roasty. I really liked the one I had. Maybe I was in the mood for that kind of beer that particular moment. That often makes all the difference.

People often mistakenly think Guinness is a big or heavy beer based only on its darkness. It really isn't, though the (clearly inferior) bottled version of Guinness Extra is a bit heavier. The draught version is quite low in alcohol, rather low in final gravity, and other than the dark color and roasted barley flavors is a light and refreshing beer by most standards. I'm a big fan of G on tap.

Are you familiar with the white beer style, Adam? It is a pretty peculiar beer style with coriander and orange rind flavors a requirement.

My "normal" choice of beer when i am in the mood is either a Newcastle,Stella, or Boulevard Wheat. The white has an interesting flavor, In which i am looking forward to enjoying the remaining 3 bottles out of each 4 pack in a few days.

It still say the Double Bock is my favorite so far.

I am no beer Connoisseur by any means, But i love to pretend... ;)

I didn't know Grant's was no more, in Portland the beer showed up very early in the microbrew phenom just about the time everyone was sick to death of wheat beer.
The best beer I've ever had has been from any of the McMenamins brew pubs in the Portland area, and I drink whatever they make right there as fresh as possible, other than skipping the fruit beers. It seem beer is like sweet corn and the stuff picked less than an hour ago is golden. These beers will never see a bottle, a truck, or a store. They are in the thousand year old tradition of small production artful beermaking by dedicated barpeople that stood directly in the feedback path. Maybe it is only in my mind, but I can taste the freshness, this beer is alive, it is good food, it is amazing, it is cold but it gives warmth, it is everything great about our nature of seeking perfection, as it could be made no better at all.
I agree with your assessment of McMenamins. They make some very nice beers and serve them in some of the most interesting and fun venues. I like Edgefield, in Troutdale, in particular, and the Olympic Club in Centralia. They make nice destinations where you can ride in, have a good meal with several pints, and then crawl to your room to rest up for the next days riding.
I wish I could return the favor of agreeing with your assesment, but the food at any of the McMenamins pubs (excluding Edgefield's formal dining facility) is just so so. So, drink dinner and forget that tastless semi weird burrito. The burgers are good and the frys are fine and deadly (I suspect each one will remove a minute from your life expectancy).

Yeah, Good luck finding the good stuff in Ohio... They have the most ridiculous alcohol laws there... You can't even buy a normal 80 proof bottle of whiskey! Everything i have ever seen was diluted, And i am sure the beers are the same. The Imperial series is 9% alc/vol.

Booze laws seem really weird from state to state ,,,, Ohio ,, beer and wine can be sold in stores , like Kroger , IGA ,, etc... Booze like Jack Daniels.. etc. have to be sold in State Stores...

My uncle lives in Penn... you have to go to a state store for everything,,,even beer,,,,, No beer at Kroger's ,, how weird ,,,

In Ohio diluted booze can be had at stores ,, like kroger's , etc.,, don't know the percentage ,,, but it is watered down ,,, cheap stuff....

Marker Mark ,,, Jack Daniels ,, Jim Beam ,,, Wild Turkey ,, full strength stuff can be had at the state stores,,,

Wild Turkey Rare Breed 108 proof ,,,, sold in Ohio ,,, will knock your dick in the dirt ,,, ( good stuff )

Good to know about Ohio... Weird that the state runs the show though.
Not that weird ,,, the State Gov. and /or the Federal Gov. tries to run everything,,,

OOphs ,,, that's political ,,,,, might get in trouble ,,,

Still my favorite story still is: My daughter told her friends she was in college before

she knew "suck ass chicken **** bleeding heart liberal " wasn't one word...........

wonder where she got that . ??????????

Oh well,,,, time for another Goose Island Oatmeal Stout,,,

Beer is good ,,, so many beers ,,, so little time to drink them ,,,,, later DAN <<<<
