I hope everyone is doing okay out there! We just put the news back on and it still looks nasty south of here. It's eerie seeing the pictures of Times Square completely deserted. Although empty roads in Hartford were probably even creepier!

So far we haven't lost power, but we thought we were going to a couple of times--lots of flickering lights and power surges. We had one large tree come down across our dead end road, but the tree crews have already come by and taken care of it. And when we were watching the news earlier, we happened to catch a video our neighbors sent in to WCVB TV of two large spruces going down in their side yard. We haven't left the house all day, so who knows what we'll find if we venture out tomorrow!

We hope everyone makes it through safely and with minimal damage!

Our luck ran out at about 7PM last night. While watching storm coverage on the TV, lights had been flickering for hours. Then suddenly blackout, followed a split second later by a big "boom!" It seems a big tree a few streets over came down and took out the neigborhood. Running on generator and G3 internet for now. Not sure how long we'll be out for. Hope it isn't as long as the last time.

Hope everyone down south (where the storm actually hit hard) is doing OK.

Wasn't too bad for us. Wind was the worst around 2100 last night. A good size tree came down in the back but well away from the house. Never lost power. that is what amazes me most. There are a lot of outages in the area, but nothing like NY/NJ. Those folks got hammered.

All the surrounding towns including us and Fred W have 100% power outages. Driving to work I saw lots of tree litter but no major tree damage or pole damage. I did see one tree that took out the top power wires and was resting on the communication wires in Atkinson. I really need to leave work and go back home to run our generator. Country Living with no power = no water, no heat, no hot water, no lights, no fun.

We in Northern Ontario are well out of the worst of it. It got blustery yesterday afternoon with about 30mph winds with gusts to about 45-50mph. Mix of rain and snow. Still like that out now as the storm heads north. Only victim that I know personally was the cover on my FJR. ****, gotta buy a new one.

Keeping the east coasters in my thoughts, especially the NY'rs and those lucky *******s in the WV highlands area.

Holy ****! I had to wear sunglasses on my way to work. Thank the good Lord!

I hope that everyone faired well.

Made it thru Sandy quite well. Trees R down everywhere and some roads closed but nothing like all the devastation and flooding that took place down south of me. We here in Central NY are scheduled to get plummeted by rain for the next 2 days. BLAH!

Hope everybody made it OK, some of my Pennsylvania/Jersey friends are still without power and are not expecting it back for a couple more days at best.

At least you guys are used to the rain (I know that having grown up in Rochester).

Back in 2002 I bought a 7000 watt generator after an ice storm here in NC left us without power for 8 days. I've never had to use it.

Not bad - 10 years of continuous power for about $1500!

I highly recommend it to everyone.

Yeah... that didn't work for me. I get to use mine way too often. Happily churning away out in the shed right now (I run a cord to the house). But at least it makes life without utility power bearable. ;)

I lost power on and off over night, but it is on this morning. I have phone and internet (internet phone) as well. Most of my neighbors have no power and I saw trees on power lines laying on the ground a few miles from my house, so the power must come in to my place over the mountain in the opposite direction.

Other than the wind taking down trees and knocking out power my area is OK. A much better story than when Irene went through.

So, how have the rest of you folks fared?

I'm glad that you're ok Greg. I was thinking about you guys last night & wondering if you made it through ok. We had what I'd equate to a Noreaster for 3 days. Well, 4 if you want to count the suckassed weather that we had on Friday. I've gone to 2 hurricane parties in the last 4 days. The sun's finally out!

Was talking to the a couple of the Supervisors in Dispatch at work (I work for the 2nd largest 911 call dispatcher in North America) and they said it's been nuts since about 7pm last night. Most of the calls were of the 'my powers out variety' though. Well duh. :D

It started raining here at around noon last Friday and has not stopped, then yesterday we started getting you east coaster's leftovers...hard rain & high winds(70 mph gusts)...and this **** ain't supposed to stop till Saturday.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Dude, you are definitely preaching to the choir. It was actually sunny this morning... it lead right to more rain.

& how did your brother's Porsche fair? Seems there was a ****-ton of coastal flooding. I've seen picture of restaurants that are in his area & there was water in them.

Left the wife in Fredericksburg, drove to Logan WV.

Blizzard warnings... snowed from WV line to Beckley.

Job site lost power at 10:30 today, back to the hotel.

Roads aren't bad, but two feet of snow an hour away.

I feel for you folks dealing with this stuff. When we get a hurricane down here it is usually hot as hell afterwards. We usually have 95 degree days with 80 to 90% humidity. Using the big chainsaw gets all the sawdust sticking to your sweat and of course there is no Air Conditioning. Then we sleep with the windows open so the mosquitoes get to feast on us while we try to sleep. I can't even imagine dealing with snow instead of rain during after storm cleanup.

What a mess and hope everyone is doing ok. We have been through 3 hurricanes and the longest without electricity was 8 days. Really crazy with nothing open, under curfew, and so lucky we planned ahead. Schools were closed 5 weeks. I purchased a generator about a year before the first hurricane and worked well to power the well and frig during the day. We live about 1/2 mile west of the Intercoastal River at 18'agl, so we don't get the storm surge damage the homeowners get on the river or barrier island. A riding buddy lives on the barrier island lived in a FEMA trailer for one year while his house was being rebuilt. We chose not to live on the beach because of the salt air, sand fleas, and possible storm surge.

I heard from my daughter in Pittsburgh that many businesses, and the schools were closed yesterday. The real disaster is that the state liquor stores were also closed for business. What kind of state fails to keep the liquor store open in a disaster?
