I consider myself an environmentalist.  That's why I'm burning all of the fossil fuel that I can now so that future generations don't have to deal with the toxic, messy goo...
Best statement on the Env. I have ever seen! May I have permission to use it?

My statement is, "Why try to save the Env. It's impossilbe!. In 6 to 7 billion years the sun will blow up and the earth will no longer be here.*** So whatever we do it useless. It's all over in as little as 6 or 7 billion years. So use it now before it's too late!" "Use it or loose it"

There is pleanty of fuel for all of us now. Isn't it better for us to use it in our FJR's before a Billion Chinese :D use it all up in 25cc motorbikes! I mean there is no fun it that  , and fuel in an FJR = Fun Fun Fun! :)

There's a lot of information out there on the issue of alternative energy and recycling and most of it developed from vested interests with particular points of view.

Whether it costs more or less in environmental or economic terms comes down to what you are measuring and how you are measuring it. Sometimes the objective is as simple as reducing land fill; sometimes its a matter of less waste or moving the site of pollution from more sensitive to less sensitive areas; sometimes its for sustainability - re-newable resource which dino oil and natural gas is not; sometimes its a generational investment that won't see a return on investment for 20 or more years (e.g. geothermal energy) and therefore won't stack up against mid-term model; and sometimes its a combination of these and more things. Some models accept such variables and objectives, other don't. Some value them high, some low.

But apart from all this its turned into a legitimate industry that generates products, dividends and jobs. Since it is now mainstream, economies of scale and rising efficiencies make the outputs from the industry more accessible and affordable.

I'm quite happy for manufactures like BMW to try and make their cars 100% recyclable; Toyota to perfect the hybrid; Mercedes Benz to develop diesel based hybrids that are powerful, efficient and economic (even though I hear European governments are anti-diesel at the moment); or our local bus company to experiment with fuel cells.

Its all about innovation and experimentation - a bit like the birth of the internal combustion engine: when it first came out it was hellishly expensive, inefficient, smelly, difficult to maintained and ran on "cleaning fluid" which was more expensive and than hay (one of the main "fuels" of the day).

...2 cents from a lover of innovation and diversity and comic book heros

p.s. Clark Kent, I belive you...I bleive you... after all you did come to earth in a rocket??????

That's why you will now find me in Montana and Wyoming. :cold:

Amazing that almost anything I read about diesel and Europe will pop up.

Europe has a huge amount of diesel cars. Even the rental companies rent them.

Would be very interested on this hear-say?

Not what I have seen...

You REALLY need to rent the series. I think "legitimate" would depend on who's using the word and how they define it for their use.

It also addresses the myth of "the industry" and the make-work jobs that are created. Think of them along the lines of the works programs created by the fed during the depression.

zzkenoman: media hybrid/diesel promo v/s motorcycles?

Autoweek mag published a chart a few months ago showing the expected time to recoup the premiums paid for these vehicles. For hybrids it was like 9~11 years down to the least costly, VW Jetta diesel -- 3 years. When comparing to motorcycles, I think you'll need to exclude hi-powered sport/luxury bikes (I think?) and consider smaller engined bikes -- and even then it only works if there's only one person in the car/truck/SUV (which, sadly, there often is in the U.S.). When my partner and I tour, our bikes average something like 25 mpg (50 divided by 2) -- when we tour together in the WRX we get 30.

That is all just talk. If one wanted to get from place to place and recoup the cost, we would be discussing the different types of soles on our shoes!

How about we drive what we want to drive. Or better still get a horse and let him eat your grass (no more lawn mowers) and dump on your lawn (no more fertilizing your yard) and when your done with the horse you will have glue for your shoe soles!

See it really pays to have a horse.

The only real reason to drive a hybrid is to artificially make ones self feel good and show others THEY think they are better people, which makes them environmental snobs! :beee:

It's much like drinking wine. If mine wine is much more expensive than yours, that shows, I know more about wine than you do and I'm more sophisticated than you. :beee:

I'll take my wine 92 Octane and 18 mpg please. :atv:

Heard about a used frier oil car--smells like stale french fries!

Yanktar,

I've often wondered about those people who make the news about converting their cars to run on used vegetable frying oil. There was a recent news article about the(highly allergic) teenage girl, who died shortly after kissing her boyfriend, who had just eaten a peanut butter sandwich.

This makes one wonder about the potential disasterous effects of burning used cooking oil, that may be all or partial peanut oil. Can you imagine potentially having pedestrians go into an allergy-induced shock and dropping like flies and writhing all over the sidewalks for air? All because one of these "eco-friendly" cars drove around the corner looking for his next burger joint filling station!

HAY! Great idea! Reduced congestion on the streets because of fewer people to drive!

I got back from a ride last weekend, and we discussed this alittle with a bmw rider (in fact one of those new 1200rs models), and suggested someone to manufacture a diesel motorcycle. I asked him diesel fuel is more expensive than unleaded right now, and all the truckers are up in arms. He said he was following the line of thinking with cooking oil and other alternative fuels (or veggies oils incl) and "he" reminded me that many entertainers are converting over gas engines to these diesel engines to help save the earth. Last night I watched the discovery channel and the show backyard monster where these mechanics made an engine with just a bottle of propane and a funny looking tube, angled like a "U". Anyways no moving parts, but had to be jump started with a lawn blower (which was funny) and the guy got on his bike and it pushed him around at 21mph. I thought to myself, we must be getting close to that all time show "back to the future" where all we do is stuff garbage in the trunk and it flys. Now I have nightmares of riding with a Juicer on my tank!

Not to mention the inevitible next occurrence of the big bang. :alien:

Let's just party now, for sometime in the next million or billion years, or so, it'll all start fresh. Why are we working so hard?
