It was a mess sitting in a dealer's shop. Less than a 100 miles on the ODO. An FJR owner upgraded to the Concours.

He lost rear wheel traction in some gravel and it all came crashing down. Very sad. I think he was unscathed.

There was a long string of relays exposed just above the left side of the airbox.

Until there is more evidence, I would question the use of the term "upgraded".

What area are you in? Do we know the previous FJR owner??

Yeah I was going to get on of them Connie's but I went on their forum and they were mean spirited! Glad I didn't fall into that trap.... :dntknw:

Ya, +1 Pony...

Upgraded to a C14 My Aching ***!!

Let us see......

Ugly RF900 Grooves on the Bags and front fairing to match....

Very Huge and Ugly Exhaust.....

Even Uglier without the RF900 bags..

Wider.......

Heaveir....

No tail section just a Tail light attached to the rear rack...

More aggressive seating....

Worse view with mirrors(half the bags obstructing)....

15,000 mile valve adjustments...

Less low end power.....

A small and hideous Factory trunk.....

Oh ya.... it has a 6th gear and supposedly a tad more HP to push the extra weight!!!

KPASS looks cool but must suck when it doesn't work!!!

Up grade??.....NOT EVEN EQUAL TO A FJR!!

It will take more than a some sales & initial bike report hype, a couple extra HP and an "Intelligent ProximityActivation Start System" (a feature I don't need and IMHO adds no value to a motorcyle) to get me off the my FJR.

The first time I demo rode an FJR, my impression was "its like they made this for me"; this hasn't changed, just because someone else has brought out something new that hasn't seen much actual use, yet. Like every other motorcycle, it will be found to have its strong, and weak points as time goes on.

The FJR's size, weight, ergonomics, configuration, handling, useful power, appeanace all precisely suit my requirements more than anything else I have checked out, up to and including today.

Wow, glad to see so many of you have ridden one. It's well balanced reporting like this that makes this board so useful.
Hence the reason I said,

My opinion doesn't have to be balanced because it is my opinion.

It would very peculiar indeed if the new Concours wasn't an improved version of the FJR. Maybe not improved in every way but with regards to the engine, clutch, transmission, rest of the drivetrain, suspension, brakes, and packaging of these components around the frame a newer design should be an improvement over a design introduced in 2000 - 2001.

Bike technology seems to have improved very rapidly in recent years.

Yamaha has made important changes since the FJR was introduced but the core of the machine (engine, drivetrain, frame, suspension) hasn't changed all that much.

One would hope that people would applaud the advancements incorporated in newer designs as the technology continues to improve.

The introduction of the new Concours will stimulate Yamaha to improve future FJR's and that's all to the good.

True, but this assumes that Kawi got it right with the C14. Jury's still out on that one.

In the meantime, bummer for the guy who krashed his new scoot. Wouldn't wish that on anybody...

I checked one out and I like it, does that mean I'm going to buy it? Not a chance, I've still got $13,021 worth of brand new FRJ that needs to be paid off sitting in my drive way :D . My brother, on the other hand will be picking up his 2008 C14ABS in two weeks :w00t:

Nothing wrong with some more competition, I always say. There was one thing that stuck out to me that I didn't like, the little glove box on top of the fuel tank does not lock - perhaps I was doing it wrong.

Upgraded to a C14 My Aching ***!! -Need a new seat?
Let us see......

Less low end power..... Can't get lower than none - try riding in the mountains.

Up grade??.....NOT EVEN EQUAL TO A FJR!! Opinions are like, well, you know...

Just wait til you get your FJR up in the mountains - then you may just be looking at the C14.

Hey - I loved the FJR until I got mine up into altitude. Now I'm looking at all the alternatives.

Before jumping ship just yet, you might want to wait to see if Yamaha indeed comes up with the altitude surging "fix" as speculated in this thread.

No kidding. If the surging problem is enough for you to scamper off to the next great thing, you'll be really sorry with a first year release of a bike that kinda almost matches the FJR that is coming up on 8 years of production.

Funny thing is that's what made me choose the FJR in the first place...

You guys sound like a bunch of Harley riders. I fully expect the

new Concours to be superior to the FJR in almost every way.

Well, I dunno if I'd go quite that far...... the GTR1400 already has lost out to the FJR in a few key areas...... things that matter, too, like dry weight, fuel capacity, etc....

Still, the big Kwak is pretty interesting, and although it's a very safe bet one isn't going to find itself in the Warchild stable any time soon (if ever), it still is a platform that merits some study, if for no other reason that to see how Kawasaki implemented various things.... B)
