Well, since Kawi came out with a modern contender in the Sport Touring market, it's sure time that Yamaha came out with a Dual Sport that gives the DL, KLR, GS, DR and CR models a run for the money. :)

1. That sucks for the C14 owner and I hope he/she is OK.

2. The FJR, while awesome has some flaws as does every bike out there. Yammi made significant improvements the last go around and hopefully the new competition will stir the pot. I sure hope so...as a WRX owner I have seen Suby ignore the changing market and watch other car makers pass them by. They have made some changes but many have been in an effort to "broaden" the cars appeal, abandoning the very crowd that made it so popular to begin with (oh, and by the way many of those people would have never considered a WRX/Scooby otherwise and later upgraded to other bigger Suby's)

Ya, +1 Pony...
Upgraded to a C14 My Aching ***!!

Let us see......

Ugly RF900 Grooves on the Bags and front fairing to match....

Very Huge and Ugly Exhaust.....

Even Uglier without the RF900 bags..

Wider.......

Heaveir....

No tail section just a Tail light attached to the rear rack...

More aggressive seating....

Worse view with mirrors(half the bags obstructing)....

15,000 mile valve adjustments...

Less low end power.....

A small and hideous Factory trunk.....

Oh ya.... it has a 6th gear and supposedly a tad more HP to push the extra weight!!!

KPASS looks cool but must suck when it doesn't work!!!

Up grade??.....NOT EVEN EQUAL TO A FJR!!

WW

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The only one of your points above that might affect you is seeing the one tail light all the time.

I too question whether the C14 is an upgrade from an FJR. Taller, heavier, and not that much more claimed power doesn't sound better in my book. That person may have the dubious distinction of being the first person to wreck a new Concours. The big question we may never know is are they going to replace the bike with a new Concours or go back to an FJR?

Wow, glad to see so many of you have ridden one. It's well balanced reporting like this that makes this board so useful.

Mike,

I hear ya, but the reports on the new Kawi being motorcyclings version of the second coming were getting a bit old. Maybe we should pick on people that ride Urals, the bastages.

+1 lol
Shouldn't that be "Gunny!". I'm not trying to be smartass, after all. I only learned that today. Or have we already moved on to some other expression meaning "+1". I'll try and keep up.

I don't even know what Gunny means, I've actually been meaning to ask. I just use +1 or x2 on other forums when I agree with someone.

You guys sound like a bunch of Harley riders. I fully expect thenew Concours to be superior to the FJR in almost every way.
It very well should BLOW the doors off the FJR in every way. 25+ years in development....Where the FJR is going on 7 or 8 years old now. Yamaha has done a great job of keeping the FJR up to spec, much better than Kawi ever could have dream of doing with the Connie.

Hey - I loved the FJR until I got mine up into altitude. Now I'm looking at all the alternatives.
Really? Have you considered looking for a good low-mile '05 FJR? Remember, NONE of the Gen I bikes had altitude surging problems. Also, the GEN I has shorter wheelbase and a lighter dry weight, which generally make for easier handling. B)

Yea, that's one of the alternatives. I guess I'm just a little pissy 'cuz I dropped over 13 large on this one and I haven't had a good mountain ride on it in the 4 months I've had it  - not to mention the little dropsy when it nearly stalled pulling into a gravel parking lot up in the Angeles Crest area. :glare: Oh well, it's just one season, right? There will be plenty of riding once I get this whole mess squared away, whatever the outcome. :dribble:
