These are pictures of original 1 year old stock Metzlers on an 06 FJR with 15000 km on them. I was trying to get the most life out of the tread and hadn't even noticed the sidewalls until I took them off to get new Storms.

The tire checking goes all the way around the tire. They are not old enough for these to be weather checks and the bike is parked in a garage so it's not from the sun. It looks like the tire is ready to separate completely.

Well, I'm afraid my stock Z6 front is starting to show those exact same marks. I got a polite "you should take it to your dealership and have them look at it" from Pirelli on the phone, and I know where that will lead...........nowhere. So, since I'm now afraid to ride (esp. 2 up) on this tire, does anyone have any better information of what this "checking" may indicate? I have new stradas in the mail, but wanted to wait until our big tour that is planned in late July to put them on the bike so I have as much rubber as possible.

How does a tire company get away with this crap?!?

Because you need to let the regulators know you have an issue.

Thanks for the pics ryan, my 07 has metzlers. I'll have to keep an eye open for that.

Those were actually moosehead's pics, although I've seen others and that's why I'm keeping an eye on mine. I hope you (and others) don't have this problem. It's easy to be an alarmist around here with all of us "how do you make this better" people.

Exactly the same thing happend to my front z6 after 4k miles. I hung with it until 7600 miles. Rear was just fine though.
