As some of you know and more of you don't care it has been raining here in SOCAL for the last week. Thought I was blessed last night with picking up the FJR in the late afternoon, riding a 100 miles and it not raining on me. Today was even better. The skies were open and the winds were calm. Roads begged to ridden on so I complied. Wanted to see how the FJR handled so, rustled up my Shadow owning buddy and we headed west. We hit the first canyon with me being a little easy on the gears and throttle but that was not to last long. It was a matter of moments as I got to feel the suspension settle and the tires bite, oH BABY, OH BABY, OOOOOOOOOHHHHHH. That was smooth. The roads were dirty and since I only have about 120 miles on the clock I couldn't wind it tight like I wanted to. SOoon, real sooon. My concern was how this bike would handle a decreasing radius turn, aka on that tightens. Welp, not an issue. I really enjoyed the soft suspension as some of the road have frost heaves on them and if I were on the R-1, it wouldn't be as comfortable. The only time the bike gave me issues was on the downhill tight stuff. Very soft and porky from what I am used to but, understandable as well. This is no R-1 and nor is it meant to be. But I did get enough lean into her that my toes were draggin. Just laughed through the turn. Hey, it tickled.

Overall I am very, very pleased with this bike and the way it is designed and handles. The only thing I would wish for is memory in the windscreen. AS in, you turn it on and it goes back to the last place you had it. That would be real nice.

When it was done, we got on the 14 and headed back into the desert. Would of thought I was on a sportbike the way she climbed the grade and danced through traffic.

Almost mixed it up with an Z06 but, gotta keep the rev to less than 5k.... There will be another time.

MojaveFJR, Next time you are in the neighborhood stop by the Fire Station so I can have a look at that new Bike? Sounds like you had a great ride. Hopefully in a few months I will be joining the ranks of a new 08 owner. Ride Safe.

Boy are we in for a treat...a daily 100-mile report :blinksmiley:

The BoF has some excellent starting points for suspension settings on these bikes. Makes a world of difference,,,factory settings are too soft.

Thanks for the links and tips guys.

I am assuming you are talking about the station down by the library?

Will look into that windshield mod after my 600 mile service. Don't want those guys putting it back together after I go through the effort.

Thanks for the suspension tune page. Will have to start tweeking on the forks and shock soon. Looks easy enough to adjust all that. Don't get me wrong the suspension wasn't all that bad, when the bike planted in the turn, it was solid.

Don't know about daily 100 mile trips? Would be nice though.

Charge him to look at your bike. Lessee...the going rate ought to be a free lunch, wouldn't you say? AND, you'd better wax it 'cuz he's likely to drool on your new "baby".

Nice to know. Will make sure I have a bib and cloth diaper. He is used to washing and waxing those fire trucks all day long, this will be a snap for him.

I know huh, That aint very damm far at all :clapping:

Hey, I just spent my 1000th post on this comment. :yahoo:

I know but am working up to it. Put in 200 yesterday. Getting there. When my bud gets back from Afghanistan we are going to plan a nice road trip. Probably a Grand Canyon trip or something. He wil have a hard time keeping up on that DL.

*edit* noted LSUboy already posted the link to FJRtech.....

You know you can disable the auto retract feature of the windshield.

The FJRtech pictures are from an 03-05, might be slightly different on the 06-08, but I'm sure if you search around a little you'll figure it out.

As for suspension, you'll find that many of us went with aftermarket rear shocks, and upgraded springs in the forks. Makes a huge difference, I would think even more so because you are coming from a true sports bike.

Enjoy

Confirm, almost identical, but you need strong fingers to release the connector, which is tucked in an awkward place to get to.

This picture shows the connector released, the "fixed" part won't budge, and the release lever is underneath.
