I have to wear the usual credit-card size security ID for work, so that unauthorized people can't see our nasty work conditions and how small our cubes are...

Anyway, they issue these cheap crap thin plastic badge holders, and if you forget at the end of the day and ride off with it still on your belt, it's gone by the time you get home. Security isn't too pleased about that. I've been looking for a leather luggage-tag style holder, but none of them are big enough.

So there's lots of cops & military folks here who have to deal with the ID situation... does anybody have a better solution? I don't care if it's expensive.

I haven't had to deal with that issue on this job, but just googling "badge holder", there are lots of on-line vendors with solutions that might work.

For example, here's one. Horizontal, vertical, big, little... :)

I generally keep my badge in my pcket, but when I do wear it it is on a lanyard around my neck. If I forget it on it is protected under my riding jacket. I usually get a new free lanyard whenever I attend a conference or event, but they are inexpensive if you have to buy your own.

Another solution is to clip your badge to your shirt rather than your belt so it is protected by your jacket and not subjected to damage when you bend at the waist. I have seen some people clip their badge to the front corner of their shirt collar. That makes it easy to verify that the picture matches the face but only works well for the formal guys who wear stiff collars and neck ties.

Mine is clipped to my belt on a retractable lanyard. If I forget to take it off it soon reminds me as it slaps the **** out of me! I haven't lost it on the way home yet though.

I have an ID holder I picked up at an army surplus store that's a NECK ID holder. You can tuck it in your shirt for the ride home. What I do, since I have to show it at the gate (which involved me being on my bike), is I tie it to the left handlebar. THe one I bought is clear and holds two forms of ID, and sticks one side to the other with velcro. So I velcro it around the clutch lines and put my ID in there.

lanyardsupply.com is great! I ordered several things to try, including some shirt clips. My Google-fu must be weak.

Thanks a bunch...

You mean the backstage pass to work? :p

How about using a retractable lanyard clipped to your belt, and putting the card in your front pocket.

Because one pocket is already occupied by my Nokia N800, and the other has my wallet, USB keys and other stuff.

We live next door to the FAA building that oversees Orlando Int'l airport, and a week ago, an airline pilot made it to the 5th floor of our building without anyone challenging him. Oops.

I have one that wraps around my arm. Baby isn't going anywhere. Guards love it. Don't be holding up the line, pulling out my ID, putting my ID back, blah, blah, blah.
