Hey BobbyBlue....I haven't gone anywhere...been here the whole time.

I just did the colonoscopy thing...did the pill routine. HOLY MOSES. I thought I was going to crap myself to death. Didn't know a human could hold so much ****. The procedure wasn't all that bad....they put you in a sort of lala land. Best to have it done periodically.

I'll be 50 next month. Had one done at 45 found a small pollop(SP) so they removed it but had me come back 3 years later all is good. Really didn,t think the prep was all that bad except for the no eating part. Worse thing for me was I have never slept well, and I was having the best snoze of my life and then they roust you up like your late for work or something. colonoscopy for me not bad, now ya wanna talk about kidney stones, son of a *****!!!!

Get It (Freakin') Done!

My first one was done the day before the docs removed 14" of my interior plumbing. After a less than fun 6 months of chemo, I was on my way to 7 years of cancer as not a factor in my life but always in the back of my mind. And the drugs IS great.....so I haven't minded the annual plumbing checks I have to have.

Butt seriously, folks.....get 'er done. I have cancer on both sides of my family and I was a complete turd blossom for not having a scope o' scopy done when I was about 40 (my excellent adventure occurred when I was 51.).

To juniorfjr: God speed and good thoughts for your friend, Hope all goes well for him.

mom died last year of colon cancer. as soon as she was diagnosed a couple years prior, all blood relatives got a colonoscopy. not pleasant the night before, but if you have a family history, GET IT DONE. per my doctor, the polyps can stay that way for 10 YEARS before they turn cancerous. did you hear that??? 10 YEARS!! the doctor said it's one of only two cancers that is PREVENTABLE.

oh, and when you "prep" yourself the evening before the procedure, do yourself a favor and buy some baby wipes. DAMHIKIJKOK? ( :

One of my oldest friends has had some problems lately, so he went in to see a doctor for the first time in 35 years.
Hope things work out OK for your friend.

That's some good advice you're sharing. The prep and the dignity sacrifice is well worth the potential for early diagnosis of something while is it curable.

If the doc gives any of you guys a choice between the flexible sigmoidoscopy (less invasive) and the full roto-rooter jobbie bear in mind that the former is done while you're wide (VERY WIDE) awake. The latter earns you some good drugs and a designated driver.

Good advice Jill. I've had 2 sigmoids and one full roto-rooter, much preferred the latter.

Just a follow up. I visited the hospital today, one day post op. The surgeon removed a tumor from his colon the size of a mans fist. That along with about a foot of colon. At least for now the prognosis is good, but guarded. He has been having syptoms for almost a year now, an innate fear of doctors offices. And if he's lucky he'll have colonoscopy every year for many years.

Be smart and don't let this be you.

Fred Jr.
