Due to family issues my 08 FJR will have to go up for sale.

I have some nice farkles on it:

Nelson Rigg tank bag

Motofizz small

Nelson Rigg tail bag

Hello Driving lights (installed but not wired yet) with Garauld light brackets

Cee Bailey windshield

Garauld luggage rack and backrest

Passenger peg lowering kit

Passenger peg exhaust heat shield

Sliders

The question is should I strip it and sell the farkles separately, or all together?

I would strip and sell separately. You have a relatively new bike. It should sell OK without the farkles.

Then any money you get from the farkleage sales is gravy.

You can get 40-60% of retail for good condition used farkles if you sell separately. If you bundle with your bike, you'll be lucky to get anything for them. The conventional wisdom is to strip and sell as long as you have the time and energy to do so.

+1 on Fred and Texan here. Farkles may attract a buyer, but they rarely add to the price.

It also kind of depends on the farkle. If those driving lights were already wired, there's a good chance I'd leave them on. Since they're not, I'd sell them separately. The heat shields? Those are pretty cheap to start with, so I'll leave mine on when I sell the bike.

The bags seem like no-brainers to me. Sell separately. The bike buyer may or may not want them, but somebody definitely will.

Good luck!

Two things you could do..

#1 Sell the family and keep the bike....

#2 Sell the bike without the farkles and sell them to the wonderful guys here.......

I recently bought my FJR and it came with probably $1000 of farkles (Givi topcase, bar risers, Throttlemeister, aftermarket decals and paint protector, a spare windshield) and I actually paid less than book value for the bike excluding farkles. I removed the bar risers, the rest is still in place.

They may help with the sale, maybe, but they probably won't contribute much to the sale price.

edit to add:

Sorry that circumstances have resulted in the need to sell your bike. Hope things improve for you and your family.

Sorry to hear that you have to give the girl up. I agree with the others, strip the farkles and sell them on their own...you stand a far better chance of recouping your money.

I just bought a farkled up '06. As it stands, after selling some stuff (a bunch remains to be sold), my out of pocket purchase price is $5855. I still have a couple a hundred more to remove and sell. I got a good deal on the bike (I think), but selling the unwanted stuff is making it better. The seller would have had me hooked at the orginal price and could have been padding his pocket with the farkle cash that is now padding mine.

What's more important to you, money or time? You'll make more money selling the farkles indifvidually, but it'll take a lot of time.

I just did this on another bike and made about $1000 more selling the accessories separately from the bike.

What amazes me is the number of used bikes on the market, and the range of prices. So stripping the farkles and selling the bike at a lower, more competitive price seems to be the best way to get back as much of your investment... As for the "time" it takes to sell the stuff, I found that I drive past a couple of Postoffices/ shipping places, and I'm on the web nearly every evening, so managing the "sales" and getting them out the door wasn't a problem. Dealing with people who were upset over "Dibs" or "Gee I don't have paypal but will you honor my foodstamps" kind of nonsense did dampen the mood on another website.

I know when the time comes to unload my 08, that will likely be my plan...

Mike
