You know, like any job, this one has its days, where I wonder why I even bother coming in. However, a lot of times, it is pure fun, and I almost feel bad that I get paid to do the stuff we get to do...Almost.

So, last year, I took over our bike unit and have posted some pictures of bikes. I'm bad at picture taking, because I get wrapped up doing other stuff and just forget. BUT, our boss decided to add some bikes to the department, so I had to send the guys to a class. My guys and I attended, to help instruct, and had a great time. This time, some pictures were taken and we even got some video. After a day of teaching the guys to ride up and down stairs, one of my new guys told some friends what we were doing. He got told that riding up stairs is impossible, so he's the one that asked us to video ourselves riding the stairs. Just happens there's some bonus video in there also...

Me riding down stairs;

That's all the video I have for now. We took them on a cool final day training ride today, and there was a guy taking pictures and maybe video, but I haven't seen any of that yet.

This is part of the reason I won't jump ship as soon as I could. With my saved leave and time on, I was eligible to retire on June 24th. Holy crap!! Oh, well, too early, and I have more to do, but it's nice to know that if the BS gets too deep, I can punch out whenever I want.

You like you are in a little better shape than when I last saw you. I would guess that the bicycle is doing you some good.

Glad to see you are enjoying your job. You and your brother are a constant reminder to me that not all cops are jerks and that some of you do still "serve and protect".

I agree that riding up stairs is harder than it looks on camera, when we did our bike training we did about the same amount - maybe a little less - and it kicked my ***. The ride and tackles are also harder than they look. Looks as though you guys had some good times.

Congratulations on earning the freedom to walk when you wish it!

It's a nice feeling. I've had that freedom for several years now, and as I shared about six months ago, Don's passing pushed me into the realization that I need to do it this year. I've sent the letter and will be wrapping it up at the end of this month.

Looks like you're still having some fun with work. Fun is good.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the smiles, AJ. Not all the vids worked for me but I enjoyed the post anyway :)

Hey guys...Don't know why the vids aren't working for some of you. They are direct YouTube links and work here. The neenernet is weird!!

Some of those guys are still calling me about how much fun they had. It's dumb.to think we have to train adults to ride bikes, but they're technical pieces of equipment, and take some serious skill to ride hard. They are more work, but can be as fun as a motorcycle.
