Well I am itching for another bike, a grand tourer and maybe a trailer. Seeing the 03 is is fine shape it doesn't pay with all the farkles to upgrade to another FJR. Soooo.... I think a Wing would be a great addition to the FJR and the DL650. I've done seaches but get minimal sites for the wing. So could all you wing dings post your favorite site and maybe a great place to buy a Wing in California. Thanks Mike in Fremont, Ca. I would also consider a used Wing with low miles and of course lots of extras for no charge. lol

I have a Wing and you will love it! The GL1800 Riders board is the best place to get Goldwing info. Its the Goldwing equivelent of this forum.

The info's a bit dated, but EastBayMotorSports in Hayward had a pretty blue 2005 'Wing when I was shopping for my FJR, in late June. Don't know if it's still there, but it was in good shape.

I rented a wing for 5 days last fall in Phoenix for the wife and I on a little get away trip. Sweet machine for two up, brought my I pod and was rockin' everywhere we went. Figure renting one ever year or two would be cheaper than owning for now. Once the kids are finished with school I may buy one.

Because we were up in the northern area at higher elevation we were getting around 45-50 mpg.

Now may be a good time to pickup a slightly used Wing. Check Cycletrader.com, craigs list and the want ads in the bay area and Sac. Doubt you would have to worry about it being used as a track bike

I sold my 03 wing to get my 07 FJR (I can only afford one bike for now). The only reason I wanted the FJR is that I wanted something less Vanilla but with all of the abilities to travel. The wing was an awesome bike. It handles well for a big bike and will outhandle almost every cruiser on the market. It has more power than you can use and it was probably the smoothest engine I have ever had on a bike. That being said, it was so refined, it almost became boring to ride as my daily commuter. When someone refers to the wing as a two wheeled car, they aren't kidding.

It would be nice to get Smitty's input on his new Wing. After his recently having both an FJR and the KTM990, his feedback would be good reading.

I'm looking at renting one in Reno for the day and drive around Lake Tahoe...little bit of all road conditions. Need to have a smother and more comfortable bike for 2 up. FYI you should check out ebay, their is a dealer back east selling them with all the options for under $19k!

Also check out OTDcycles.com They are in LA near LAX right off the 405 and Florence (I think) They have THE best prices on new ones if thats what your interested in, or check out GL1800riders.com and their for sale section. Wait there long enough and you'll find just about anything your looking for and are VERY informative, knowledgeable riders.

Had an 06 Wing before the FJR and truly loved it, but it was time to get something that better fit my riding style and needs.

The thing that sucks about the wing is they now come 'tiered"

tier 1 - basic wing

tier 2 - premium sound/comfort pkg

tier 3 - above with navi - I had this....Navi sucked but did the things it was intended to do....I'd put a garmin on the bars...much better

tier 4 - above w ABS

tier 5 - above w/airbag

Everyone wanted ABS standard, should have been on the tier one package, most everyone didn't want the Navi or sound as they were modifying it to their desires.

I've got an '03 Wing with 110,000 miles on it. I decided to get a sport tourer for improved "nimbleness," and settled on the FJR. Even though I still enjoy the Wing, I haven't regretted the FJR pruchase for one minute, and most of my mileage goes on it now. As good as the Wing is, the FJR is quicker, faster, and better handling, and gets 15-20% better mileage. However, it's not as comfortable as the Wing and has a little more "buzz." I'm also going to have to get the handlebars back a little and get a custom seat.

When I got the FJR, it wasn't long before I rode it faster than I did my Wing. Then, I got back on my Wing and found that I was riding it faster than the FJR (not through the twisties, obviously!) because, as smooth as the FJR is, the Wing is smoother. Well, this is the condensed report - I could go on for another page or so, but I won't...

And, if I were you, I'd rent one for a weekend trip and see how you like it over an extended ride.
I agree. :clapping:

Heck...if you hold out long enough...Smitty may put his Wing on the market...he changes bikes often. Have not seen him on consecutive rides with the same bike. Ever.

+1 on renting one first.

I've had a GL1100, GL1200, and a GL1500. I've riden a GL1800. I'll stick to the FJR thankyouverymuch. Not enough cornering clearance on the Wing (and anyone who's ridden with me knows i don't push the envelope of the FJR at all).

Heavy, bulky, and thirsty.

I have had wings in the past, long time ago though. But I have ridden the 1500 and the 1800 in limited rides. As some know I am not the ball buster on the FJR like most. I am more of a point A to point B rider with comfort and smoothness in mind. While the FJR is a great mile eater and I have made the ergos fit me, I hear tell the Wing is as good as it gets for comfort, reliability and cruising. My early wings were great bikes. Plus I might want to add a trailer so I can tour and play golf during my motorcycle vacations. Thanks for all the input and I probably will rent a Wing just to refresh my memory. Hell it just might get me to upgrade with another FJR instead.
