Well, I ws riding my usual Sunday ride down Hwy 25 in Leeds, AL, making sure I wasn't out driving my sight distance and all that. Came around a curve and there is a guy with his bike on the ground, skid marks everywhere, and he's laying on the ground. One vehicle was stopped, so I decided to see if I could stop and help. I pull over, get stopped, put down the kickstand. At that point I realized the kickstand wasn't quite on the pavement, so I rolled it forward and got firmly on the pavement, turned on my flashers and proceed to swing my leg over. At some point, I guess I must have forgot to make sure it wasn't in neutral, and it started rolling while I still had my hands on it. I thought I had it stopped, but the ground under my boot was soft, and she layed over in soft dirt and gravel. Anyway, I got her upright and checked on the guy on the ground.
Evidently he came through the corner, scraped his knee which scared him half to death, then stood the bike up, ran off the road cracking the front rim, back on then low siding it in the opposite lane which crack the crankcase. He was obviously way outside his skills envelope. He looked like he broke his wrist and twisted his leg, but didn't want an ambulance or the police. Several more people stopped, and he didn't want any help, so I left.
The results of my good samaritan ways are that I need a lower fairing on the left side, and the small piece by the tank on that side, as well as the crankcase cover(I think) that has Yamaha stamped on it. I'm not too happy about that, but oh well, atleast I didn't come off like he did. I've already sent a message to Universty Motors to get a quote on the pieces I need.
in mourning..
