What is the effect of adjusting the turnbuckle on the shift linkage...for example, does moving the alignment mark on the pedal downward between the two range marks on the case shorten or lengthen the throw of the shifter? Does it have one effect on downshifts and the opposite on upshifts? I can't find any info on this adjustment in the manual or by searching this site.

It just adjusts the postition of the lever. If you want to shorten the throw, install an R1 shift arm as many here (including myself) have done.

It's for adjustment only, because some people have clown shoes and some have little shoes.
