Hi, 06 fjr with electronic shift. Owned for about 10 months. I have the bike apart for maintenance and getting the CCT replaced (started making slight noise) and while I have it up on the stand, I wanted to get others input on something.

When shifting gears up or down I get a loud "clunk" for each gear from what I'm thinking is the shift actuator. Like an ol' 18 wheeler up shifting. Its loud enough to register into my helmet mic and laughed about because everyone on the mic channel knows when I'm shift. The linkage between the two seems okay, but is there a way to quiet it down or is this how it has always been? I usually hit the trigger shift around 3,5k to 4k rpm, higher or lower rpm dosent seem to make a change. Other than that noise, everything seems normal. Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

First off, check the actuator mounting bracket is securely attached to the frame. Early '06's suffered from the bracket holding the actuator breaking. I believe there was a recall to fix this, later '06s were fine.

I've always found that the actuators could be noisy or quiet. Seems like they choose which they are going to be at the start off a journey - weird, but that's my impression.

If shifting is reliable and it all seems good, and the noise hasn't got worse over time, I wouldn't worry too much. (The only time it might baulk is when changing while stopped, then paddling the bike an inch or two will let it go into gear. Happens very occasionally.)

A little movie of my Gen 3 YCC-S. Taken with the bike on its centre-stand, this was on a "quiet" day, might give you a noise clue.

(Don't get too jealous, Gen 3 YCC-S has the option for auto-changedown when approaching stopped, which is why I took the movie!)

Thanks for the video, I'd say the sound is almost on par with mine being just slightly louder. I'll definitely be checking the bracket. That auto-changedown though seems pretty nifty. Thanks again.

Welp.... after putting it all back together and riding it a day flawlessly, a mile from home going to work I hit the trigger for second gear, the bike kinda stalls like its thinking, then I feel the clutch engage but no extra speed, look down.... Gear 1 and sh__45 error on screen. Tried to stop but clutch would not disengage so I hightailed it home in first until I flicked the kill switch in my garage.

When home I reached down to the shift lever to put it in neutral, restarted it, no error code but no shifting either when trying to shift out of netural. The arm just wiggles. I suspect this may have to do with the bracket thing if my hypothesis of a possible bad battery draining the charging system is incorrect. I'm on the road for a few days and can't wait to look for myself when I get back.
