After getting inputs from guys about riding a brand new bike home AND checking out a more recent forecast, I'm seriously considering shipping. Anyone have any suggestions or warnings? Dan

I used these guys about 6 years ago when I got my new 05' shipped from the mid west to AZ. Keyboard They did a great job, use some very slick mc specific dollies that do not damage the bikes in any way and are real pros. On time delivery and very courteous driver met me on my schedule. Whomever you use, get references, because many moving companies will say they'll move motorcycles, but be sure to inquire as to how they secure and transport them.

I shipped a bike in June using a branch of Allied Van Lines. Bike was picked up at my home and shipped to Albany NY to the buyer. It arrived in great shape after about a week and a half. Typically they pick the bike up and palletize it in a local truck that takes it to a warehouse. At the warehouse it is combined with other freight and shipped in a full truck to the terminal destination. If you want home delivery, it will be transferred to a local truck with a lift-gate and brought to you.

Shipping is expensive, and no fun. It gets the job done. Take a look at the weather, and understand it always looks worse than it is. If you have good gear, it should be no problem. If you have electric gear, it is easy to get access to the battery to install the harness before you leave the showroom. The only thing that should stop you is snow and ice.

As TomInCa used Federal I also used Federal in August and Sept. of this year. Used them last year as well. I was satisfied with how they handled the bike both times and will use them again some time in the future. Not cheap, but much better than renting a bike you are unfamilar with.
