Okay, my Arai is beat all to hell - two light crashes, faceshield all scuffed up (and these are $54 alone at minimum), vents broken off, finish scuffed and scratched ... and only three years old! It's a mess. Boo-hoo. So, I'd like to find a used, but like-new only, never-dropped helmet in XL, Shoei or Arai only. My Arai was the Astral model, I believe, specifically for round heads (or is that the Quantum?). I also had the narrower/thinner cheek pads in it. If you have a tall, narrow head and your helmet fits you, it won't fit me. Not interested in modulars. It must be no more than three years old. Tell me what you have and how much you want. Thanks!

I have a like-new Shoei X-11 in XL for sale at $350. Could be a bit narrow for your head shape though (that's why I'm selling it).

Internet prices for new are all over the place, but I did see a few X-11s marked down to $299, no doubt clearance and maybe out of stock or with fat freight charges. Given the hat you have may be too narrow, I think I'll pass, but thanks for the reply.

If the Astral fits you well, you would be best served looking at the Arai Corsair RR5 (newest) or older Corsair RR4 (discontinued), the Vector 2 (newest) or Vector (discontinued), or the newest model, the RX-Q. These are all "Intermediate Oval" shapes like that of the older Astral model which is now discontinued. The Shoei RF1000 (discontinued) and it's replacement, the RF1100 also lend themselves to a similar head-shape. Keep in mind that RF1000's do NOT have replaceable liners and neither does the older Arai Vector. The Shoei RF1100 and the Arai Vector 2 along with ALL other Arai's have removeable/replaceable liners. Shoei X11's and newer X12's have rem/rep liners.

You should peruse the ebaY listings and your local dealers for Brand New, discontinued models at a drastically reduced price. I picked up 3 Quantum II's for $200 each, brand new in the box from one of my local dealers a few months ago. They weren't marked as such but the warranty period was just getting into the realm of being reduced from normal so I made them an offer that they gladly jumped on.

It's worth a looksy.

Looks like I'll go hang around the retailers here and see what kind of a deal I can get.

I have a Shoei XL in gloss black I could let go, never dropped or crashed, very light scratches here and there...whats it worth?

Kevin

That depends: how is the shield? Crystal clear, no blemishes? How old is it? How clean is the inside? What model Shoe is it? My original post stated "like new only." Is that what we're talking about?

I have a new white Arai Quantum II XL, a white Arai Quantum II XL worn for one month, a white Arai Vector XL that was worn for one week,a blue Quantum II worn for several months with a few scratches, and a blue Shoei TZ-1 XS worn for two weeks (just in case you have a little lady to fit). Let me know if you are interested in any of these

I have a Brand New In the Box Quantum 2, XL in the Twisted Blue Graphics. Make me an offer.
Kneedragger: PM sent.

Great lid!

Have you worn one, yet? Just curious since you had previously mentioned your fit as Intermediate Oval like the Astral, Corsair, Vector, etc. The Quantum is a Round Oval but maybe you're lucky like me....my head shape is right there in between and both of those shapes are very good for me.

Enjoy it!

Tree Doc,

The Arai Quantum XL pot from Kneedragger arrived this morning. He was upright in our dealings and gave me a very good price. My old one was the Arai Astral X (style now discontinued) in an XL. I was used to the fit and it no doubt had conformed to me. The brand new Quantum (and it is brand new!) is quite snug, not just a little snug. I think I had the 18 mm cheek pads in the Astral and this has the 25 mm, I believe. I may need to swap them out for thinner ones. It also seems tight around the cranium/crown. It will need to break in quite a bit to be comfortable, but its possible. If not, I'll have a brand new Quantum for sale once this weather breaks (March?).

Just pull those cheekpads out completely and see how the crown liner fits without the bad influence of squeezed cheeks (sounds like a bustanut joke).

You'll have a Level IV liner that is 7mm in thickness along with the 25mm cheeks as you mentioned. You can switch that liner to a 5mm if the 7mm is too snug. You can drop to a 20mm cheekpad as well.

All the parts are easily obtainable from Arai or an Arai dealer and also, ebaY is your friend. Lots of discounted liners being sold as "take offs" from dealers fitting helmets for customers. I've bought numerous brand new liners this way at a substantial discount.

Good luck with your new lid!

Tree Doc,

You are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to helmets. Sounds like you might have been in the business once? Thanks for the valuable info that will very likely be put to beneficial use.
