Mililani, Hi
Recently went on ride around Oahu. Thought I'd share the trip with y'all. Firstly, new windscreen I installed.

This was one of my favorites from that trip

Interesting fact. This was my last ride as a single man. Got married a few days after.

First, thanks for sharing.

Second, I am sorry you had to get married. I hate to see that happen to anyone.

Third... What speeds are you shifting at now?

I'm shifting between 4k to 7k depending on how quick I want to move. I've found the shifting is actually much smoother now. It's not often I get out of 3rd any more. 2nd does well for most city driving, any thing more than 45mph I'll typically go to third. 4th is when I want to have some fun and no cops are around, or much traffic for that matter lol. I haven't been in 5th since I adjusted my shift points. Not that Oahu has many roads I could do that on anyway lol.

Is there a way to "Tag" people? That Uncle Hud guy used to be stationed here and asked for some Oahu pics, I want to make sure he gets a chance to see them.

Marriage isn't so bad, she doesn't try to stop me from riding and that's all I can ask for. Hell she's even talked about learning to ride herself. We'll see.

The bike looks great, I was pleasantly surprised by how good that V Stream shield looked. I am impressed.

Do not worry about Uncle Hud. He will happen along eventually. He is like a bad case of poison ivy. He shows up when you do not want him, then he just will not go away, and he irritates the entire time.

If you are worried, send him a PM and direct him to this thread. But he will probably find it soon enough.

I would hate it if Mrs. Redfish wanted to start riding. For one thing, she would probably need a trike with Dump Truck tires on the back to support her weight. But even worse, I ride to escape her. How could I ever have any peace if she started following me around on the motorcycle?

I am immensely pleased that you have learned to enjoy finding your own shift points. Perhaps now you can see why we took your initial thread as such a joke. The FJR is so diverse, you just do what you feel at the time.

Thanks. I was also quite pleased with the way the screen looked. At first I was worried because it didn't look as good as I thought, but once installed it was gorgeous.

Ah, come on now, he doesn't seem all that bad....yet.

Escape is quite the truth. I'm never as happy or feel as free as when I'm riding. The FJR sometimes makes me feel like I could just fly away....and then I realize I've got a little "too much throttle" and back off so I don't lift any tires lol.

I knew going in that I'd catch some flak asking about shift points. I could of definitely presented it better.

Well, Mr Poison Ivy is here, but some of the photos are not. Good one with the dolphins on your windshield; Pride Runs Deep even after 35 years, bro.

Looking good, Mr. Hellrizen. Was photo #1 taken in Navy housing? Background looks like Navy housing on Nye Circle in 1979.

Well damn. I had some duplicate photos on photobucket and I guess I deleted the wrong ones. Thank you ionbeam for reposting my Pali Tunnel pic. Here are the others

Well, the Pali Tunnel entrance/exit looks exactly the same all these years later .... complete with perennially moist pavement and moss growing in the cracks. Sigh. I remember a silver RD 400 and, later, a dark blue XS 750 Special (triple) that roared through those tunnels looking for locations seen on Magnum, PI.

Thanks, y'all! I'm 24 again!

U/H - miraculously, we do have a few things in common. We've both owned XS750s and we've both been to HI at least once. I did my tour there in a convertible (A Pontiac Grand Am IIRC).

To the OP - nice ride report. You've got a lot of bike for island hopping.

hppants, it's a lot more than I originally thought. But such an amazing machine as I've been finding out. The more I ride, the more I fall in love with this bike.
