I like to ride my FJR w/o the side cases about half the time. I got tired of setting them on the floor of the garage on a shop towel to I decided they'd be better off hung on the wall. After rummaging around in the basement I found the solution.
I found an unused section of aluminum picture frame kit. These two sides were each 12" long. The top "hooks" on the back of the side cases fit perfectly in the aluminum channel. Now how to secure the channels to the wall. An old piece of 1x10 that was about 34" long worked. Then I used an angle bracket under each channel so that when locked they hang on the channel and can't be removed. Sort of a version of the slot the locking mechanism slides into on the bike that keeps them from being lifted up and out of the slots on the bike. once I attached both channels and both brackets I mounted the board to the wall in the garage. Now the side cases have a place to hang when not on the bike.
Sort of hard to explain but if you want pictures PM me and I can take some and send them to you. It lacks aesthetic elegance but it works. Part of the strange look to it is due to: 1) the channels are straight and the bags, while also straight horizontally, look crooked or different from how they look when mounted on the bike (angled up at the back instead of horizontal) ; 2) one end of the channels needs to be offset from the 1x10 mounting board because the "hooks" are not parallel to the flat part of the back of the side cases. I used nylon washers on one side of each channel to lift it off the mounting board. I had to grind the washer on one side to angle it under the channel. This makes the locking mechanism parallel with the mounting board and allows the use of a simple L bracket to keep the locking mechanism from lifting up and out of the channel until you unlock the handle and lift them off to mount them on the bike.
Like I said, not so elegant but it keeps them out of harms way while not on the bike. In my garage I really didn't have any other place to safely keep them.
