Now that I've got my first 100 miles in on my new (to me) FJR, it was time to find the indicated top speed. Of course I am a professional driver on a closed course, and as I was sliding past the buck and a half mark and my right side visor (the part you can adjust to inner/outer position) came off. At first I had no idea what was happening. It lifted my leg off the peg, I think because it pushed my knee out into the wind before flying away. Because I never saw it, I thought I had hit something in the road, or maybe a big bird, but figured out what it was when I caught it landing in the mirror.

A search here turned up a couple of threads of this happening to a few other riders. No clear cures for preventing it from happening again. I will try tightening the clips to hold them on tighter, and take them off before I try topping it out again. I never run at those speeds so it's not like I'll ever have to worry about it...unless it starts happening at lower speeds. Hopefully the 2 part epoxy will hold the bolt centers back in it, as they got torn out when it departed. If not, I'll be picking up a new one. I don't imagine they come painted. Anyone know for sure?

Joe

I would think it's available painted, just like any other plastic part for the feej....

Sounds like a moderately expensive top speed run.

Last summer on my way from OH to SC I got a pretty decent tankslapper goin' at about 140. It only lasted for a short bit, but shore did get my full attention. Yup... that will probably be my last foray into the stratosphere over 125.

Y'all be carefull now, heah!

Here we go! :)

That's because Yamaha was still experimenting using the rider as a heat sink for the cooling system. It was soon abandoned.

I just got my replacement in the mail today! I lost my left side visor during the march wildflower ride, I was in a hurry to get to Vegas :yahoo: . Replacement for my 06 was $65

GPS Indicated 136 mph and nothing flew off the bike. Are you sure you guys aren't riding a Buell in FJR clothing?

I haven't seen my visors for as long as I can remember
Visors? WTHFH is a Visor? I don't think Gen I's were OEM equipped with any visors?
It's a Gen II thing. I hit top speed on my Gen I a while back and the paint peeled off, we were going so fast. Then the black dye came off my leather jacket and left a black puddle in the road. Then the chrome came off my pipes. Gosh, what a fast bike I have.

Once again, you don't disappoint!

Jeff (FJRGuy) lost one of his. Last I heard he was close to convincing the stealer that it was because the tech didn't "tighten it properly" - ya - that's the ticket!

Joe...No worries. My right side one came off a while back. It hit me in the knee and I had no idea what it was. It thought it was a bird or bat or something until I looked down expecting to see animal remains and realized my faring piece was gone.

I found it on the road, took it to my Yamaha dealer, and he replaced both of them under YES. They came painted and look great. I will also never again move those pieces of **** unless I absolutely have to.

Yet ANOTHER reason to own a relic Gen I FJR.

RadioHowie to the white courtesy phone please..............

As for FJR top speed runs, here's another relic: Clicky.

From what I recall, it's not too hard to forget to make sure the front two tabs on each are "snapped" into the clips before securing them with the rear fasteners. The front tabs on those visors/vent panels aren't the sturdiest pieces of engineering either, so it wouldn't be too hard to inadvertently break them...leading to the OP's fly off problem.
