sidestand wiring bypassed but ignition problems remain

I actually cut off the upper connector and soldered the 2 wires together there. I don't see how it would be a problem to ground both of those wires to the frame, or is that a bad idea? If so, I will have to cut them apart and try what you're suggesting, grounding just one of them. I'm at work now and can't remember the wire colours or if both of them are black.

If you ground them, just don't ride off with the sidestand down. That first left turn is going to hurt.

Once you track down the electrical short i suggest you reconnect the sidestand switch. I used to ride with a guy that disconnected his and then forgot to put his sidestand down. It was a nasty crash! Ruined our weekend ride. I don't ride with him anymore.
