If you've seen this... instead of "Oh Southern, that's old news"... solve it and be a hero...

You are in a room with 2 doors and 2 computers. Both doors are identical as are the computers. You can't tell the doors apart, nor the computers.

One door leads to a tropical isle, the other to a torture chamber.

One computer always lies, the other always tells the truth.

The riddle is this... what question can you ask either computer that will lead you to the correct door?

If you ask either computer if the other is the liar both will say yes. However if you ask Computer No. 1 what Computer No.2 is going to say about Computer No. 1 you can tell which one is telling the truth.

If the answer is "he will tell you I am a liar" then Computer No. 1 is telling the truth because that is what if Computer No. 2 is going to answer.

If the answer is "he will tell you I am telling the truth" then Computer No. 1 is the liar because neither computer will ever say the other is telling the truth.

This is true, but you've used your only question. Your approach is the right one though.

Wasn't this in "Labyrinth"?
...dunno... didn't see the film.

Whoops... looking over the new posts this morning, I noticed FJRrottie posted a similar puzzle before me.

The answer is... ask either computer to ask the other computer which is the correct door, and take the opposite door.

If you're talking to the truthfull computer:

He'll ask the lying computer who will say the wrong door. The truthfull computer will relay this same answer. So, you take the opposite door, which is to paradise.

If you're talking to the lying computer:

He'll ask the truthfull computer who will say the correct door. The lying computer will of course, lie and tell you the wrong door. So again, take the opposite door and you're in paradise.

The flaw in this riddle is that ALL computers lie! I've been programming the damn things for 24 years--I know.

And, if they use MicroSoft S/W, you can COUNT on them lying to you--and always at the worst possible moment!

I think they should rename MicroSoft as MurphySoft!

You would ask either computer the question, "If I ask the other computer which door leads to the tropical paradise, what would his answer be." The truthful one knowing the liar would lie will give you the wrong door. The liar, knows that the truthful one would give you the proper info, but he's going to lie about it. Whichever one you ask will answer with the wrong info. Take the other door.

Doesn't matter what you ask either computer--the answer will be:

"Error 00400--Stack Overflow. Please re-start your computer."

+ 1

ad while stating it's Bush's fault, they'll claim that getting to paradise is a pipe dream, and that you should pull out of the room before anymore doors get opened in vain....
