Which seem to be the prefered Sirius or XM radio for the fjr I asume i can use one with my auto-com system.Which Radio is the easiest to mount.

I have a Sirius Stiletto, just stick it in the cell phone portion of the tank bag. I'm thinking about picking up a Zumo 550 which would requier me to get the XM subscription as well.

This will hopefully be a moot point if these two companies get their merger done sometime this century. :eek:hwell:

Sirius for me. Must have a receiver with Audio Out to hook up to Autocom. Whichever you choose you will enjoy it.

I have XM, not because it's better but because I have the Zumo 550.

I have XM because it is better. More channels and they don't have Howard Stern.

I also have it added to my Zumo, and that was one of the selling points to me about the gps unit.

You can pick up a XM Roady , or XT for less than 40 bucks and they do have audio out for your system.

edit:

oops..you can get mounting for either from here:

I have Sirius in my wifes Ford pic-up and XM in my Chevy and on my FJR. I like the XM better. Don't know why but I do.

IMO the Roady XT has a serious deficiency for mounting on a motorcycle. The XT sits on a base that is a pressure fit, the base is what attaches to the motorcycle mount. The pressure fit is nowhere near strong enough to stand up to the abuse of riding on a motorcycle. You can Red Green a solution, but it becomes a lot less portable.

For Jim: XM subscription rates

I have XM. It is a Skyfi2 which has worked flawlessly on a bike for 5 years

I have both XM and Sirius. Sirius is my choice for programming. The XM music channels "cycle" through their playlists much faster, and even though there are no commercials on the MUSIC channels for both services, XM seems to do alot more chatting between songs than Sirius. XM offers a larger selection of receivers. Sirius has the NFL, NASCAR, NBA. XM has MLB. I don't get the "Sirius has Howard Stern, so I won't get it" argument. Just don't listen to that channel! Just like on TV, there are shows I don't like, so I don't watch 'em! Both XM and Sirius may occasionally "drop out" for a few seconds depending on your location, but nothing too annoying. Sirius uses three satellites, XM uses two satellites and terrestrial repeaters. What does this mean? Not much, except Sirius has better geographical coverage, all the way into Canada/Alaska. You really can't go wrong with either. You won't listen to regular, commercial filled radio anymore once you've tried satellite radio. The chat channels, news channels, etc still have commercials, but you get your money's worth with the commercial free music channels and the ability to listen to your favorite station coast to coast without searching for a new station every 50 miles!

Sirius here, too. Had the X-Act receiver in the tank bag of the bike for 3 years and, when getting the new car, chose Sirius instead of XM for the programming and deep cuts.

What is the subscription rate for satellite radio? What's the cost of getting a device?
I believe it's 12.95/mo. for each service and half price for second and subsiquent subscriptions (you need a subscription for each unit). Pricing on the units range anywhere from about $40 up to about $300. I'm speaking specifically about Sirius, but I think XM is the same deal.

Jeez, man I was joking...don't take everything you read so Sirius...

( I have had XM for awhile, so I just picked it because I am used to it, I am sure Sirius is just as good)
