I wanted to pass along my experience today with SiriusXM for those looking for the best deal.

I have XM capability on the bike via my Zumo550 and GXM 30 antenna (the account goes by the antenna serial #). I also have a new truck that had a 6 mo trial and was ending in another few weeks.

So - I did a bunch of research online and found a forum that gave alternate phone numbers than the one they heavily advertise and gets you to a Pakistani or Indian guy named "Bob".

I ended up turning off my 550 for this yr and extending my truck for 6 months - then I'll call and negotiate again later.

So - with that said - here's how it goes. Normal SXM prices are ~$200/yr and it auto re-news the account. The advertised phone # is 866-518-3925 - don't use it!

Call one of these two; both of these get you to call centers in North America:

866-635-2349. If you have an account, then go to option "3" to cancel and then they'll offer you a better deal. The common one is $95 + fees + taxes = ~$120. Still not good enough; you have to keep saying "no, that's too expensive".

I called another number - 866-434-7429 and ended up with a 6 mo deal for $32.15 for the truck. I'll have to call and renegotiate in the spring + add it back on the Zumo. Make sure you don't go for a "temporary" reduced rate for 6 mo or a yr because then it goes to full rate (~$200). If you can record/forecast the dates to call, then just make sure you call and get another 6 mo.

It seems that things like the 6 mo/$32 deal is only known to people at certain phone #s. Make sense? They also have a 5 mo deal time to time for about the same $$.

Oh, and one more thing. Do not use credit cards that will be valid for several yrs. The one I used today expires next June, and the one I used before already expired. Alternately, many CC providers will give you a one-time number for situations just like this. It's important that they can't auto-renew. Ask me how I know..........

Very good information. You can also get a discount if you pay for a year. Got that on my truck. I also got the internet supscription. I called and talked about getting a trial for the ZUMO 665 before my SS1K and trip to CFO. They said no. I do know that if, at renewal time, you tell them that you want to cancel they will discount. That is really some ******** as that just says that they are gouging the people that can afford the exorbanent prices. The credit card auto renewal infromation is good too.

You didn't get taken by Smilin' Bob did you?

LOL no. I did see on - not sure - but 20/20 or 60 Minutes - some show like that, about the owner of "Smilin' Bob" and how he was a shyster, owed all this money or something like that.

The first time I called about getting SiriusXM was for my '05 Dodge Magnum that had that capability (I bought the car used). I just called the main number, got the foreign call center and after a long phone call it was determined I couldn't get a signal for some unknown reason and they canceled. Or so I thought. Turns out they put me on a 6 mo reactivation and then charged my CC for the full amount! Another long phone call to the main number finally got it straightened out but now I don't give them a card that is active that long, or do the one time # my CC company provides.

This latest 6 mo/$32 deal I put on a card that expires soon enough (not that I have a pocketfull of those things), so in this case it just worked out.

The 6 mo/$32 deal is the best I've been offered; it beats any 1 yr deal I personally know about, which is why I wanted to pass it on to my FJR peeps.

What did they get you for the internet? She did ask me about that, but I said no and don't know what it adds to the price, or if they have a 6 mo deal.

$9.99 a month. I get $2 off, because I have the vehicle subscription.

Is this what you're on now - as in is it for the house? Do you have to have some sort of outside antenna?

I'm asking because I'd love to get off this AT&T in the house, so always interested in cheaper options. I don't have alot of choices here in beautiful Mims.

Thanks for the tips. I got a lifetime subscription for Sirius back in about 2000. Only had to call once after initial setup when I transferred the script from the mobile receiver to the one in the Subaru STi.

The internet and vehicle are two different things. I can listen to Sirius on the internet anywhere I have Wi-Fi. Most of the time I listen using the Sirius app on my phone with ear buds. Especially when mowing. I also have a speaker cradle for my IPod and listen using the Sirius app on it. Nice to have out on the deck by the pool.

OK, I think I understand. You're not getting internet service from SiriusXM, you're getting the ability to listen to SiriusXM through the internet. Is that correct?

My brother in law has a head unit he had in a truck almost 10 years ago that had XM. He got pissed at them for some reason and cancelled the credit card. The head unit still gets it free to this day. He's got it in his huge K5 blazer we take fishing....listening to Howard Stern in the middle of effing nowhere where you can't even get a radio signal is kind of surreal...

That's a better deal that I've got LOL!

Yes, SXM is a pain to deal with, but those phone #s I posted make it a bit better.
