Just got of the phone with Skooter. Sorry if my writing kind of bounces around a bit. Our conversation pretty much bounced around and I tried to scribble down notes to post....

He's a hurtin' puppy right now. Like most other riders, he headed for the bonuses in Canada and has been basically soaked since then. He said the 24 hours of straight rain pretty much demoralized him and almost left him in tears. After getting two hours of sleep (and taking 2 hours to try and dry his cloths), he left again to grab more bonuses.

Right now he's heading back from the Perce Rock bonus and is about 200 miles east of Montreal. He's going to ride until around midnight and then get a few hours sleep. In the morning he's going to decide weather to go for big bonuses in Wisconsin and Iowa (I think) or take a more conservative route grabbing smaller bonuses on the way back to St. Louis. He knows he needs to be a little rested before starting the next leg, but big points are calling his name…..

During his ride yesterday, it seems he almost stranded himself with a dead battery. He had been running his Warm-N-Safe heated gear on full, and was simultaneously running his PHID's during the night. His stock stator was no match for that combination, and wasn't able to keep up. He spent the better part of an hour attempting to push start his bike in the morning.

So far he's covered 2250 miles, and is expecting to cover 4500 mile total during the first leg.

I've told him people are asking about him, so he's going to try and give me a call somewhat regularly so I can post updates! Stay tuned in this thread for Skooter Vs. IBR!

Good to hear he's still in the game, hope he doesn't burn himself up early. historicaly the big boni will come in the second half, plus he'll be heading west, home territory--- advantage?

Tell him to hang in there. :clapping:

Well, everyone is assuming the second leg will have riders heading west. That has yet to be determined. He's hoping the second leg will have him further into the west as it will hopefully mean less rain! He's also pretty much seen as much of Canada as he can handle!

I also have talked to Greg several times since the start of the IBR. He did have some phone trouble, the rain got to it. I also hope he gets a little rest and does not put to much on his plate. GO!!! Skooter Go!!!

I don't expect to hear much more from him until he returns state's side. After about 45 minutes of him rambling/blowing off steam he said "Hey, why don't you go on Verizon's website and see how much its costing me to call from Canada anyway." After discovering it was $0.69 a minute, our conversation ended quite quickly.

I take my hat off to all the riders going through that rain for the best part of the first day. Must have been very depressing. We can only hope Skoot starts to feel better with the dry conditions. I hope he goes for the big bonuses, he's good enough for a top ten and it would lift his spirits enormously if he finishes the first leg high in the order.

Hang in there Skoot. I'm rooting for you. :clapping:

Its too bad he was getting so wet. His mom told him to take his galoshes and umbrella but would he listen? Noooo!

Good luck and be safe.

Skoot's on the old trail of learn'n.

Even though he's probably down on his ride and unsure of himself, a good nap can bring back a lot of verve and nerve.

GO SKOOT!

You can do it Greg... we're all pulling for you!

Don't let the rain get you down... it's just God's way of keeping you cooled off...
